Not noteworthy at all for England's senior pool but Associated Press says Spurs academy product Samuel Shashoua has filed a FIFA switch to the US. Born and raised in England to an American father of Venezuelan descent. Switch had to be filed because of provisional cap-tie to England at the U17 Euros in 2016. Average production in Spain's second tier but the US doesn't have many wingers obviously better than him beyond the top handful (Reyna, Pulisic, Aaronson, Weah). https://www.thestar.com/sports/socc...uel-shashoua-switches-to-us-from-england.html The US national team pool of players raised in large part in England now includes: Musah Antonee Robinson Carter-Vickers Otasowie Chituru Odunze Shashoua Not Balogun or Mighten. The latter was rumored but has not happened so Mighten should still be considered an England player.
Blimey, he’s 22 now! Time flies by as don’t think we have talked about him much since he was playing for our U18’s. He was a talent when younger but can’t say I’ve seen him play for a long time but I’m going out on a whim to presume he’s not really kicked on? Would be miles away from a England call up but I’m surprised that the US would consider him an option but if you’re short in that area then good luck to him.
Seems unlikely doesn't it? He's Swedish born and well integrated into their system. He'll probably get a senior call up before long.
Was a decent prospect in Spurs Youth team was Sam, glad to seem him doing well in the Spanish 2nd division. You'd think he'd have more of a chance of playing with Venezuela, but he's probably weighed it up and wants a chance of playing at a World Cup.
Nowhere near England senior quality but his side does have a decent chance to be promoted to La Liga. If that happens and he continues to start in that league (even with average production) then he has a very good chance for the US squad.
Very unlikely. Our FA are really inept when tracking Dual players that aren't quite ready for a senior call up.
To be honest he's not a player that I think we should be pursuing. He's Swedish born and embedded into their setup. I see him as a Swedish player. We have so many talented players in his position that I'd perceive it as underhand if we tried to nab him.
Zidane Iqbal has just made his senior Iraq debut. Does that prevent him making a one time switch later on or not?
However if does end up becoming good enough that he could have played for the senior England squad the FA will be kicking themselves. As will his accountant.
I've said it before, but there is really no point fretting or being disappointed whether we missed out on player X or Y, as no matter what the FA do this is going to happen! Look at Mahrez for France for example, he was never in contention for France at any stage (playing in Ligue 2 and the Championship) and then exploded on the scene out of nowhere. There are probably 50 or more English eligible players representing other national teams, all for various reasons, and there are even more who could potentially move. Some never good enough to play for England (Osman Kakay - Sierra Leone). Some who its to early to say whether they will ever be at the required level (Yunus Musah - USA). Some who would of been in and around squads (Michail Antonio - Jamaica). Some who have represented England and then switched to another nation (Wilf Zaha - Ivory Coast). Some who it probably was never a serious option (Erling Haaland - Norway). And to be honest I think the FA and England should be proud of the players its producing. As even though they are representing another national team, I'm sure most see themselves as English as well. You pick the best players for each age group, and then pick the senior team on form, merit and experience.
It's a sign English youth development is doing something right as Regis said France have had multiple players have good international careers with other countries. Aubameyang mahrez koulibaly. We are producing enough good players
I think a lot of fans would see it same. But as he could still switch Southgate could be asked about it at the next press conference. While eligible under the education rule does he even have British citizenship yet?
I know people have asked about Olise so thought I’d add this thread I found. I’m not entirely sure how accurate it is but might explain why he hasn’t been called up or selected by France for a long time: Basically the French u18s trained with the 1st team at Clairefontaine. Huge bust up during a session.Laca had to be held back. Threatened to end his career if he saw him again. Olise was sent home. Not been called up since, looked to change residency to UK in aftermath.— Guilty, I support Reading. (@Reading106) January 22, 2021
Whose Laca? Might thar also be why the FA are hesitant to call him up - if he has a reputation for disruption.
I don’t think he has been called up by France since 2018. Olise last involvement was 2019. So I am not sure it’s all true.
There is surely going to be a lot of questions in the press about Fabio Carvalho International future if does not get called up for either country in March.
I’m not sure Southgate picks on big clubs but more on being tried and tested. In fact it’s only Mount he seems to really favour from Chelsea - he is usually accused of under using Chilwell and James and anyone else linked to Chelsea.
Good point. What I meant to say was Southgate won't pick him because he's playing in the championship at the moment. There's a bit of snobbery within the England setup where we only seem to pick prem players. Other countries like Portugal would be willing to give Carvalho a game even though he plays in the championship.
