Yedlin would be a very good MLS right back. Miles ahead of existing options. He's 28, not some ancient guy, so still should have a couple more good years in him. Big thumbs up for me.

I was going to respond to this but there's not really much to say beyond the string of 4-5 Yedlin comments on the previous page...

28 is far from ancient, in fact it should be his prime, but if you watch him, his speed is not what it used to be.

He has a step to lose though. We don't need him to have the same speed as when he signed for Tottenham. He can still hit a nice cross.

Yedlin is just a slightly better version of Nick Lima with similar weaknesses to their games.

And I would say it was a mistake to let Lima go, so pretty much in favor of this, depending on how much we pay him.

I think the big reason the Quakes might do it would be for marketing. He’s a “name” player that could be used for marketing and promotion. Shea Salinas and Cade Cowell will likely be featured as well, but they may not be starters. Wondo leaving creates a vacuum.

That's the whole point. Yedlin is a "marquee" player and will demand an appropriate salary which is not worth it to us. I like Lima as well and would love to have him back if we are not able to sing anyone better than a Lima for our RB hole.

If he helps us beat the Sounders I am all in favor of signing him.
Yeah, we need to spend "marquee" money on a striker or CAM, not a right back.

Agreed. Although I would hope that we spend that "marquee" money on a quality ACM like a Zalerayan, Reynoso, or Pozuelo who would provide the biggest impact for us. With Benji, Cade, Espinoza, Chofis, and Ebobisse to surround that kind of player we would be set up front.

I think they would quickly find that Deandre Yedlin does not sell tickets.

There's nothing stopping them from finding a talented young player down in South America who could get local fans excited by the way he plays (almost nobody in Atlanta had heard of Almiron or Martinez before they arrived), but that would require scouting and spending more than the bare minimum (as Almeyda confirmed)...

Oh I'm pretty sure Almeyda brought up more than one player from south America to the FO. Problem is that it would require spending actual money for talent. Something we just don't do. I'm aware we don't have lowest payroll but I believe it's also the reason we ended up with Rios for example and payed him a lot. He came free.

I hope we used GAM/TAM or signed him to a low-rent deal. If he's a DP I will eat my hat...

The press release just say "Roster Designation: Domestic" and also mentions he has a green card, so I think this means no DP or Int slots used.

Lenny and Gordo didn't have sterling reps before they came here, and we got 2012. I'm just gonna leave that here...

I wasn't excited at all about Gordo, but outside of his antics, I really liked what I'd seen of Lenny before he joined the Quakes.

Crickets? It's yet another thing of value we can sell for nothing.

So far, we've got a team that will bomb out of a playoff away game in the best case. Improve the DP slots and we've finally got a team that can contend for a cup.

To make the playoffs we need 7 teams to be worse than us. It's hard to come up with 7 teams though.

    1. Austin
    2. Houston
    3. RSL
    4. Vancouver
    5. Colorado
    6. Nashville / Galaxy
    7. Minnesota / LAFC

It's doable but we'll really need our young guys to step up.
