US Open Cup 2022: Schedule & when MLS teams will enter By MLSsoccer staff Wednesday, Dec 22, 2021, 05:42 PM
Disappointed to see that NY Cosmos did not qualify from NISA. It's hard to dominate American soccer when youre not qualifying to tournaments like USOC or CCL or even playing in the NISA season.
If I were MLS, I would so be trying to find a billionare to revive the Cosmos in Long Island or somewhere. I may be old, but that brand resonates with me. I think a 3rd team in New York, would help bring up interest with the other 2.
They should spend their time getting a stadium for City first. Then, maybe that. Maybe. Nah, not really.
Rocco doesn't give a fat rats ass about the Cosmos. What make you think anyone else in metro area does?
Why should he care about the Cosmos when he knows it will never be in the top flight? I would really like for Cosmos to be in MLS but it isn't going to happen.
Maybe at one point the name recognition would have had some utility, but at this point the name has been dragged through the mud so long and so deeply by grifters, liars, flim flam artists and thieves I dont believe it can still be said. The Cosmos are a laughing stock now, and thats a tough one to come back from. Maybe with a lot of time and a lot of money you could rehab the image but why would you? At this point theyve sold all the throwback jerseys theyre ever likely to.

Here's the messed up part--if the Cosmos organization had dealt with MLS with respect and negotiated in good faith, if Rocco had played his cards right, the team could've been right up there in MLS. But he instead went into it with an adversarial mindset and then declared war on MLS when he saw his team wasn't going to get in without paying a huge fee and giving MLS marketing rights. Now the team itself has to pay the price because the owner's gamble didn't work out. The Cosmos deserved better than to have been treated like garbage by their own owner. They're not even trying right now--opting to sit out the NISA season. It's as if Rocco has given up completely on the team.
Tbf, the Cosmos blew things up before Rocco came along. They blew it because they were criminals who had no viable path to MLS. Rocco was the "savior" of what little was left. No sane person would have bought the Cosmos, hence Rocco got them.
The 2022 line up will be announced next week. The announcement of 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Open teams has been delayed to next week. #USOC2022— U.S. Open Cup (@opencup) January 21, 2022 NISA not having their shit together is apparently holding up the process. We're not sure why #NISA were given an extension on the stated deadline in the US Open Cup policy of Dec. 31, but that's clearly what is happening. We'll just have to keep waiting for a decision from NISA one way or another. #USOC2022— TheCup.us (@usopencup) January 21, 2022
At least it's not the fault of the Cosmos--we know that much. Cosmos aren't even competing in NISA regular season. It is disheartening to hear this news however.

In case if you all were wondering about the delay, yet another messy situation brewing in NISA. There were, supposedly, 13 teams planning to play in the upcoming season when in reality was 10 teams, with Stumptown, Chicago and New Amsterdam off the table. Not a single sign of team growth except for some "throw at the wall and see what sticks" expansion teams in Phoenix, Syracuse, Rochester (NY) and "Bay Cities" The whole league is a vanity project scam.
