This doesn’t move the needle at all. So, a typical DC signing.

Well, at least it keeps the needle from regressing. But, ya.

Bosko scored one league goal for us, and four after he left.

    Thx,

    Jay!

He's going to be DC's second highest paid player ever. That moves the needle for DC, at least.

Yea the scoring refers to Salihi, the midfield play refers to Bosko

Whenever I see this I wonder if this is $7M per year for 3 years or 7M spread over 3 years. Given DC United's pattern of spending I'm thinking its the latter.

It's supposed to be the latter.

Actually he wasn't slow at all. He was absolutely one of our best players (not at Etcheverry or Moreno level but not far off), we just didn't know how to use him. He literally was man of the match in a Euro game between Serbia and England and the following week he couldn't make the DCU starting 11 and spent the game on the bench.

He and Olsen didn't get along particularly well because they saw the game and how to play differently. Since I happen to speak Serbian I was able to get a "REAL" sense of what Boskovic was asying He thought Olsen was all about constant running with unsophisticated tactical awareness and an attack without ideas.

Boskovic was a very technical player with a high soccer IQ. He was asked directly why he didn't run around at full speed like other players. His response was that to play the game at the highest level requires making the ball do the work; it's not about running like crazy, but about anticipation and off the ball positioning. That combined with quick one touch passing beats even the fastest players in the world.

This is where cultural assumptions bias judgement as to what is really going on.

Totally agree. I have heard Olsen did admit that not using Boskovic was one of his worst managerial decisions.

Knowing our Front Office, it's $7 over three years, two of which we're paying for him to play for a league opponent.

He was good, but more of a luxury player. But mostly I remember him being unavailable due to injury.

Fountas seems to be coming on later in his career - he has scored more goals in the last 3 years than in the first 8 combined. I am going to go out on a limb and say Austrian Bundeliga is on par with MLS so he just might be a pretty good fit. He may well fill some seats - there is a pretty large Greek community around DC....

It was said about Flores and Peruvians. Despite the pandemic, the 20 people that showed up for his first match were negligible at the end of the day.

Filling seats to me means RDA-type loyalty from the Salvadoran community, and who refused to show up after he was traded. They also showed up for Mauricio Cienfuegos.

Rooney filled seats. Some rando from Greece who isn’t a NT player won’t fill seats.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Probably. Even though the Greek national team program performance wise is facing a slump they still have a pretty sizable following. The watch parties in the 2014 World Cup around DMV had a couple of people wearing Greek jerseys.

Semi off-topic but I wish the team could tap into the Asian player market. With a sizable Asian population in our area, it would be cool to see a Korean-type player like Kim Moon-hwan or Hwang in-beom in D.C. United.

Yea I think we need to be realistic here. If Wayne Rooney isn't pushing our fan numbers up, some ********ing random Pole or Greek or El Salvadorian isn't going to do it.

Someone has clearly forgot Long Tan (not Korean but still).

Gee another body out the door with few if any in the door. Wow I can see how Atlanta's transfer system has won them so many titles.
