Because Saputo is constantly complaining about losing money? I could foresee a move to CPL. TFC and VWFC not so much.
Is that one of the reasons on why Saputo changed the name from the Impact? Because they were/are planning on going to another league?
so that would mean someone else will take his MLS slot? Either in MTL or more probably somewhere else like LV or Phoenix
He may be considering that. They were very successful in USL/NASL bringing in 12k attendances. It may also be why they haven't joined MLS Next Pro. The ongoing pandemic may also be a factor, especially if the borders are closed again. And as far as CPL is concerned, not having a team in Quebec is a big missing, (though there are multiple rumors about Quebec City).
Unless things are different in Montreal or Canada as opposed to the States, I'm surprised that Saputo is really losing tons of money being in MLS. I mean I know the owners all say they "don't make much money" and that they are "losing money" etc. but other than the Covid year of 2020, I'm pretty sure teams are profitable. At least with US based teams anyway, the franchise fees, stadium appreciation, write offs and other events and revenues brought in at the stadia, I’m pretty sure owners are turning some type of profit somehow. I can see how the pandemic was or is an issue but that will end sooner or later. Aside from that though, I don't see how or why any owner would be in it if they were or are continuing to bleed money on a yearly basis.
Billionaires Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris have entered into an exclusive negotiating agreement with Major League Soccer to move toward bringing an expansion team to Southern Nevada. https://t.co/x4ZkC8kamr #vegas #mls— Mick Akers (@mickakers) January 20, 2022
don't reinvent the wheel; buy the Lights too, play them this year in USL and next year in the MLSNP. Buy the brand and the stadium and leave everybody in place. You then can call the senior team the LV Lights FC and the 3rd division team the LV Lights Reserve.. You can then sell merc two years before the team takes the field and you already have a presence in the community as well as a mascot; a llama and a supporters club already in place.
I feel like Charlotte soccer community meant nothing to Charlotte FC ownership as far as branding, stadium, pricing, and maybe existing culture are concerned. I get a sense of that as well is going to be somewhat the case in LV. I mean, if LVMLS is named Villians if they like it or not, then they will follow with colors and crest of ownership choosing as well. The Lights supporters WILL submit or find someone else to support as ownership won't really care. At least LV gets a SSS, hopefully with decent pricing. But I totally agree with your post, buying the Lights, whom I think is one of the best brands in all of US soccer, and moving them up to MLS is a no brainer. But......
True that. Will this be LV Villains colors? Or will they not choose colors so close to RSLs? At least Charlotte copied AVs jersey so maybe LV will go another direction than this
MLS expansion a step closer to Las Vegas as ownership group emerges - FOX5 Vegas https://t.co/RvkS60rQvO— Jeff Radcliffe (@Jeff_Radcliffe) January 22, 2022 Important bit of new news here: Stadium to be funded privately. No tax dollars.
https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/...d-rail-project-is-at-the-1-yard-line-2518090/ Vegas to LA high speed rail is a congruent project that Wes Edens has been involved with. The construction of the Vegas rail station is planned on the same stretch of land on Warm Springs and Blue Diamond south of the 215, where the soccer stadium will be built. This article, written by the same journalist who broke the story of MLS entering exclusive negotiations with Edens and his group, has to be seen as another indicator that we are all systems go for both projects.
The @MLS appears headed to Las Vegas and probably sooner than later.https://t.co/ycBz5fi5Es— Las Vegas RJ Sports (@RJ_Sports) January 25, 2022
He’s always complaining but won’t do anything about it. And the Impact wouldn’t last two years in the CPL. The fans would leave and the media would ignore them even more than they do now (which is saying something).
Las Vegas expansion update The quest for the 30th MLS club hasn't been much of a secret, with MLS and Las Vegas circling each other. Nothing is done yet, but Garber hopes for firm news at some point soon. The bid is led by billionaire businessman Wes Edens. “It’s not fair to say Vegas is all but done. Expansion deals are complicated in any market," Garber said. "Going to a place that requires a soccer-specific stadium, you have to be sure that everything is aligned. Everything needs to be aligned with the community, fan base and politically. We are making a lot of progress. We hope to finalize something in the first third of the year. I could not be more excited about working with Wes [Edens].” https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/mls-...YsCqIOWuWE89P-pgt5RJr0HMGH0aQENAZEWrg9-rh7I7I
MLS is aiming to finalize a deal this spring for Las Vegas to become its 30th team, Commissioner Don Garber said Tuesday. The city has been atop MLS’s list for some time, and should an agreement be reached, it would have a presence in three of the top five sports leagues in the United States. The Golden Knights entered the NHL in 2017, and the NFL’s Raiders relocated from Oakland in 2020. An MLS team in Las Vegas would not begin competition for several years but would complete the league’s aim of expanding to 30 teams. Charlotte FC becomes No. 28 this season — the 10th new team since 2012. St. Louis City will begin play in 2023 as the 29th squad. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/02/22/mls-expansion-las-vegas/
Why did the Washington Post decide it was a good idea to basically recycle an article with no new information?
