I mean Ream’s weakness is that he’s slow and not great in space. Hence why he’s never looked good in the EPL. But he’s excellent on the ball and I don’t think it’s crazy if Berhalter thinks he’s better than Brooks in that aspect of his game.

It's not just "kind of" silly. When people express this stuff it's the type of childish rant that simply should not be considered worthy of a response in N&A. If someone wants to rant that kind of crap, they can go do it in the kiddie pool.

    Absolutely.

We waste pages and pages and pages of space on here because fans are pissed that Roldan or Lletget are on the roster, or they figure that De La Torre won't be because of some pro-MLS secret agenda, etc., and people who harp on such relative trivialities accuse the rest of us of having some Berhalter agenda or whatever. But when he makes such sloppy, sloppy decisions (and he has, and I've gotten hopping mad over it), people just pass over it in favor of complaining more about the inclusion/exclusions of Zardes or Lletget or Sargent or whomever...

Because he wanted an extra midfielder. Easy peasy.

And, frankly, it's not that impactful a decision either way. There are MUCH more important matters to discuss, some of which do not reflect well on Berhalter.

    statistics?

    what has ream proven ?

brooks has played very well in world cups, bundesliga champions league etc

ream is a mls/championship level player who hasnt come close to brooks'level of play.

what are reams best accomplishments with USMNT?

he is not a better passer than brooks.

Brooks is a better player overall. But there are statistics specifically having to do with passing and distribution. Ream does better on those overall, including if you compare his stats last year in the EPL to Brooks in the Bundesliga.

This is a particular aspect of Tim Ream’s game he’s really really good at. It doesn’t mean that Brooks is a bad passer or isn’t better then Ream overall.

I mean his EPL passing stats last year were also better than Brooks in the Bundesliga last year.

This is one of the worst roster selection that I have ever seen in my life. No Brooks. No Scally. No Busio. One left back. And no third CDM which is especially bizarre because Berhalter insists on his formation and Adams is on a yellow.

Honest to God. It’s worthy of being fireable.

his agenda is showing...he coudlnt hide it much longer

his USMNT is not a meritocracy and the quicker we all just accept that...the quicker we will be able to see his team for what it is ...and the better we will be able to brace ourselves for the letdown that this cycle will be in the end.

13 OFFSEASON MLSers is INSANE for this roster

In hindsight....looking back on how GG scheduled dec and jan camps....this plan has been in the works for months...and took a lot of effort

finding a way to distort reality and twist things to maximize the MLS presence on the USMNT is his agenda!

    its just FACT

he will never admit it for political reasons and self-preservation

when you consider that the scheduling of the dec and jan camps was done in order to facilitate heavy MLS offseason involvement in USMNT...you also must realize it is not about form...current form of players is irrelevant to this manager.

If the decision to accomodate MLS players was made when dec/jan camps were scheduled...this is premeditated.

if spots on the team are not about current form...what are they about then????

    but WHY?

    why?

there are over 50 US players in decent first divisions in Europe now...zero need for any MLSers at all.

    why gregggg?

    whhy ussf?

    why SUM?

    why sunil?

    why don garber???

    wtf

unfortunately for fns of USMNT the final WC roster of (if they make it) will have a lot of undeserving MLSers on it.

Last year Brooks was 84.8 percent total passing, 86.4 short, 91.1 medium, 74 long. Ream was 91.2, 96.2 short, 96.5 medium, 76.6 long.

    Looks like it was Scally.

Given we have 4 RBs on this roster I doubt Lennon will get much play time. Personally I don't think he's good enough for the national team, but if we're up a couple goals against El Salvador or Honduras he's one of 20+ American RBs who can do a competent job.

This is really bad, but egg has simply defeated me. I can't even bring myself to care. Hopefully the team gets 7 to 9 points, but this is basically the world cup team. The 10 can't ignore euros and then MLS.

Form clearly doesn't matter, as he brought one CB in form and playing.

Poor performances don't matter, as lletget keeps getting called in ("who caresssss he's just a bench guy wahhhhh").

    No LBs.

It's amazing how bad this roster is, and how little the MLS contingent needs to do to lose their guaranteed spots.

I said if before the roster, and I was right. Brooks has been dropped, likely for disagreeing with eggs coaching acumen and tactics (the clip of him being frustrated with egg was likely emblematic of something larger).

How is Brooks Lennon called in over scally? All we heard from the brigade is that it's ridiculous to complain because he only had a couple starts. What's the reason now? I honestly have no idea cuz I didn't even think Lennon was a legit option.

Oh, and the Sargent hate always went too far, and he should be on this roster. He is better at everything (even apparently scoring at this point) than arriola.

It's a solid roster for what was available.

    -------------------------------Pepi/Ferreira/Zardes----------------
    -----------Pulisic/Weah--------------------------Aaronson/Morris/Arriola-----
    -------------------Musah/Lletget-----------McKennie/Torre/Roldan
    -----------------------------------Adams/Acosta----
    ---Jedi/Dest/Acosta----------------------------------------------Dest/Cannon/Yedlin----
    ----------------Richards/Zimmerman--------McKenzie/Robinson-----------
    ------------------------------Steffen/Turner/Johnson----

    Dike could've been called.
Would have liked to see more goal creation threat called up for central midfield
I'd rather Ferreira be given minutes in central midfield, but GGG sees him as a Firmino-type.
Or switch to a 4231, the formation in which Ferreira had earned his new contract.
4231 could be used as an alternative for the Canada match.
One more specialist lb could've been picked.

Pretty sure Gregg listed Brooks in the roster, but the intern put in Brooks Lennon. Right?

I don't have too many complaints about the roster given the options. And who knows how other factors like COVID, fitness, travel, nagging injuries, etc. played into things. Things I would have done:

--Scally instead of Lennon. Lennon was OK against Bosnia, but seems to have limited upside.
--Brooks as an extra CB. I know Brooks was bad in the first window, but it seems extreme to completely freeze out a player of his (sometimes) quality just because of a bad window. I feel like there's something else going on--locker room or injury issues.
--Dike or Pefok instead of/in addition to Ferreira. I would have brought one of these guys as an option for an aerial target in the box if we need a goal late and have to pump crosses into the box. I know Berhalter really likes Ferreira, but I don't see it at the international level. He's skilled, but I don't think he can hang in terms of speed and strength.

    • Steffen (GK) = Obvious
    • Turner (GK) = Obvious
    • Johnson (GK) = Obvious
    • Slonina (GK) = Like
    • Dest (R/LB) = Obvious
    • Yedlin (RB) = Obvious
    • Cannon (RB) = We needed another left back not right back. Jones, Bello, or Vines were the more appropriate choices.
    • Lennon (RB) = Over Scally? Get the hell out of here.
    • A. Robinson (LB) = Obvious
    • M. Robinson (CB) = Obvious
    • Zimmermann (CB) = Obvious
    • Richards (CB) = Obvious
    • McKenzie (CB) = Don’t tell me form matters and select McKenzie over Brooks. That dog isn’t going to hunt.
    • Missing CB = Should have brought 5 center backs for a three game window. Might have not been needed but this was as good of time as any to introduce CCV to the camp.
    • Adams (DM) = Obvious. But he’s on a yellow. Berhalter lacks foresight to add cover.
    • Acosta (DM) = Obvious
    • Missing DM = With Adams on a yellow, and with a rigid adherence to a formation, what kind of idiot doesn’t bring an extra defensive midfielders? Sands should have been there and he could have covered for the other CB spot too. But if we didn’t want to pull him away from his club, then, Johnny did well enough against Bosnia to be training fodder for this camp. Hell, I would feel better knowing if Jackson Yuiell was there. And I hope that it’s true that the reason that Busio is not there is because of Covid (although I obviously hope that he’s well) and not because Berhalter doesn’t rate him.
    • McKennie (MF) = Obvious
    • Musah (MF) = Obvious
    • Lletget (MF) = Whatever. It’s not my most exciting pick but he can be useful when it counts.
    • Roldan (MF) = I’m tired of seeing Roldan. I get that he works hard and he’s probably a likeable guy, but this is not a charity and Roldan does not produce. Now, who would I have replaced him with? 1st choice would have been Bassett but with his departure, that makes that choice difficult. Then, I guess it’s a matter of Mihailovic (is he better?), Ledezma (still returning), Clark (he needs a resurgence), Busio (sick?), and I don’t know who else. So, as much I wish there was a better option, I guess we’ll just hope that it finally clicks for Roldan.
    • De la Torre (MF) = Glad to see him here. Thought he was going to get crowded out.
    • Pulisic (WF) = Obvious
    • Aaronson (WF) = Obvious
    • Morris (WF) = Arguably, obvious. He was very sharp against Bosnia and with Reyna’s injury, I can’t see who was going to knock him out.
    • Arriola (WF) = Probably not my favorite choice, but I can see how he edged out his competitors, Konrad (needs more production), Gioacchini (needs more production), Sargent (hell of a time to score a brace), Cowell (not ready), and Hoppe (in a hell of a slump). He’s got experience and he’s a grinder.
    • Pepi (FW) = Obvious
    • Zardes (FW) = Arguably, obvious. He’s not an exciting pick but he’s the kind of forward that I don’t mind as an extra in camp.
    • Ferreira (FW) = Perhaps the right choice. But is Pefok done? Also, I get why Dike is left off as he just moved and needs to regain some form but only a bad coach would rule out Dike indefinitely.
