Leno was making around 5 million euro and Ramsdale around 2.

Have to think Turner is looking for 1.5 Euro. He's making around 400K this year and would be around that for the rest of his playing days. he makes 1.5 for 3-5 years and thats too much to pass up.

Gotta love that pay jump. Gotta figure Ramsdale will be boosting his wages soon.

Have to say, as an Arsenal fan, it seems weird to waste an international senior roster spot on a backup keeper, even if the team isn't so foreign-dependent as it once was right now.

Can't begrudge someone who wants to get paid.

He has an Lithuanian passport, 11 caps last year and was rated the best keeper in the league. Sure, he's 27 and has only played maybe 100 pro games but still you'd figure he'd have some options.

Though, better to be the no.2 at Arsenal than the no.2 at Nottingham Forest.

Not to mention, one they paid £32M for just a few months ago.

Non homegrown/whatever the English equivalent is I suppose

Yeah much like with Steffan and City, the only realistic path to the starting spot is through injury or a complete loss of form for the starter. The idea is not to bring him in to compete for the #1.

Ok, but they don’t have a numerical limit. England doesn’t have foreign spots to take up. A player either qualifies for a work permit or doesn’t.

    There is

in a squad of 25, 8 of the players must have been trained in an English academy prior to 18 or something like that.

it doesn't make sense to use a non English homegrown slot on a player that isn't going to play is the assertion that person was making

Oh, you mean the squad list, not the game day squad. OK.

Turner has some serious limitations with his feet. So that will be interesting to see when he gets a chance to play.
That said, get paid. Hopefully his shot stopping will be enough for the times he does get into matches. can only wish our guys the best of luck when they do make these moves.

Supposedly he's a big fan of the Gunners so quite the dream come true.

My comfort level knowing our top two GK’s, in a World Cup year, are second choice for their clubs is not good.

Turner speaks about his thinking on a potential move abroad:

    https://www.tudn.com/futbol/concaca...o-portero-team-usa-qatar-europa-sus-objetivos

"I mean it's definitely real. There's definitely real interest. It's just about what makes sense for this year. Like you said, the 2022 World Cup is 10 months away, so I want to be smart about making that decision. But if certain opportunities come forth it would be really difficult to say no. So, we'll see what happens. I'm happy in my current situation, and it's gotten me to where I am, so I'm not going to say that 'Oh, it's a guarantee I'll go.' But I would definitely like to challenge myself in that facet -- someday, or whenever that comes, hopefully soon. But yeah, we'll see."

Congrats. I hope he forces his way into playing time like he has done before.

He’s certainly a good enough shot stopper for this level. Not sure how he fits into Arreta’s style.

He has zero chance for league playing time outside of an injury. Not sure how the cup schedules will work in the pre-World Cup period (~Aug-Nov) so maybe he gets 2-3 appearances there.

Not super well, but asking a backup goalkeeper to play as aggressively as Ramsdale does is asking for trouble (see also: Steffen, Zack). I'd rather have a good shot-stopper in that role.

I don't see any drop-off between Leno and Turner, and Leno is likely to move for a good fee either this week or in the summer, so this is a good move for Arsenal as far as I'm concerned.

Turner made his professional MLS debut less than 4 years ago, and until 2020, was making < 75K per year. According to Spotrac his lifetime career earnings have been 825K. At 27. He'll get what at Arsenal, $70K per week? About 3.5M? A year at Arsenal means he'll make 4.5X what he's earned over his career.

He's had a path less traveled as a soccer player and his income reflects that. He'd be absolutely insane to pass this up, regardless of the impacts to his career

Unbelievable story. His story has a Jay DeMerit-like feel to it. Turner would be nuts to turn down this opportunity. However, he needs to play. Going into the WC it is vital - for whoever is the GK - that he's playing week in and week out. If he's loaned back to NE, fine. That works but I'm really nervous he makes the move and then he's on the bench. Given who's in front of him at Arsenal, there's a 97% chance the bench is where he'll be. If he goes now maybe a loan elsewhere in England is beneficial. I love, love this story but the reality is that Turner needs to play.
