Wanted to start a thread to discuss items for people looking to go. Also the first sales phase has officially started! It's a blind lottery and you can either pick by individual games, a venue series, or a Team Specific Ticket (TST). In for 2 TST Mexico tickets so we'll see if it finally happens!
All I wanna say is FUCK Qatar and FIFA! This is the first World Cup that I find myself not giving a shit about. Everything about just reeks of corruption. The dates that it is taking place, winter instead of summer, the fact this will have an effect on the world’s leagues, all the BS that went on behind the scenes for Qatar to get the hosting gig, and all the workers that have died in that country while FIFA turns a blind eye I’m just not excited about this World Cup like I usually am With that said, I’ll still watch the Mexico games and hope we get far. Just won’t feel too good about it
I agree with your sentiment when it comes to the workers and their treatment. It's been terrible and a shame that nobody has actually done anything. I do think corruption is nothing new and what makes Qatar any more egregious than Russia or even SA? I was initially upset about the time change, but have grown to make lemonade out of the situation. This should be one of the most competitive cups that has been played. Instead of getting the world's best players at the back end of 50+ games you get them in the middle of the season fully fit. Selfishly, this will also coincide with Thanksgiving in the US so I'll save a couple of days on time off, haha. As terrible as this is going to sound, if you can get past the tragedies as most have for each of the last three cups, this will be a very unique experience. I don't think I'd have any inclination to visit Qatar outside of a World Cup and this is the best reason for me. I think the geography will play a major role as every venue is just a short bus ride away as opposed to a 16 hour train ride as needed at one point in Russia. The fact this will be the last 32 team cup also makes it special. I think changing the format will negatively impact the tournament from a traveling fan perspective.
Tranquilo, @Kaney. Good luck to everyone that applies for tickets, and safe travels if you're fortunate enough to acquire some.
Based on some of your poasts, it's not an unreasonable inference... Refer to poast below as an example...
THIS MY BRAND <_< LMAO, a winter world cup is a no go for me fellas. Yall have fun watching kaney twerk on people in the clubs all pedo.
If someone is planning to go that's their decision and that's alright, though for me if I had the funds and time I wouldn't go and I'm not watching any of it on TV either. At the end of the day we have the choice to give or not give our energy or attention to a tournament run by some shadowy Swiss organization in a shadowy host nation state. This host nation makes the previous 2 host nations look like some sort of Utopia.
Budweiser is one of the main sponsors of the WC, there's no way that they will stop the sale of cervezas, at least in the venues.
Alcohol is not illegal in Qatar but strict rules about public drunkenness and where it can be served. Also, they deem booze as something that is damaging to health so they tax it at a much higher rate than other goods... Thanks Google!
Yeah from I've read they don't play around with their laws. This was a very stupid decision by FIFA to give a country like Qatar an event like this, for alot of obvious reasons. Anyone who travels there needs to be careful
