I don't think Barca are doing anything wrong. They need money and can't afford to lose a player for free. It's just he's also going to do what's best for him, and that will be to run down his contract. Players take massive risks running down contracts so I doubt he would throw that away now to satisfy the demands of a club that has a history (prior to Laporta) of treating players badly.
Actually when barca are openly threatening the player and his playing time if he doesn't confirm to their demands? Then yes, they are doing something wrong and this will definitely blow up in their face.
I'm happy with any team except for Barça and Atletico winning the league, tbh. I don't know, watching a small team winning a title is always crazy fun. Last PL season I ever paid any attention was when Leicester won it. A few days ago I was reading about Wolfsburg and they had such a cool team when they won the Bundesliga in 08-09. Here in Brazil, I remember when São Caetano (a crazy tiny team) won the national league and reached a Libertadores final (losing on pks). Porto winning the UCL was cool as hell too. I am a huge Madrid supporter, but I like these stories. They are entertaining and kinda heart-warming in a sense. I know Sevilla is not a small team per se, but we are in a whole other level.
Sevilla are a tiny club in context, the problem is that when smaller clubs in Spain ascend to titles, they become huge assholes in the process. See Depor as an example. Got completely arrogant, Betis also had a patch where they actually believed they are on the path to worldwide domination. Strange stuff. I liked Porto too, mostly because Mourinho was such a villain and football really needed that shot of energy back then.
As long as they're paying the player, I don't see an issue. Nothing in the contract stipulating that they must play. They feel they're better off dedicating that time to developing a player who will be there beyond that year. It's no different than a player holding out when they're trying to force a transfer. Quite honestly, him sitting on the stands for the remainder of the year is probably better for him given his injury history. Imagine running down your contract and getting injured in January or February before you sign a pre-contract.
If a player came out publicly with the statement Alemany made, they would be called a traitor, they would be booed by fans for the remaining months, or worse. However, the club does it and the fans will applaud them. Of course, fan loyalty is usually to club over player, but there is a manner in which to handle these things. It shows a lack of class. Internally, they could feel that way, but it’s a decision to make it public that has consequences. Would you imagine Florentino or Calafat making such a statement?
Correct. But there is still the Pandev case where the "you're not playing for us no more buddy" thing was interpreted as a prevention of a player performing his profession, but in order for something like that to go down it would take months of preparation and by then the season and contract would be over.
Disfunctional club, meet disfunctional player. Match made in heaven. A lot was said about Messi, but let's be clear, the guy played the club like a flute and pretended to be a victim in the press. I think Laporta and the staff are simply sick and tired of the bullshit and want to clean house taking no prisoners.
Official statement by Ousmane Dembélé. 🚨 #FCB“Don’t think I’m out of the project. Don’t speak of intentions I never had. I’ve a contract and I’m available for Xavi. I’m not gonna give up”.“There are contract talks ongoing. My agent is on it - I’m only focusing on the pitch”. pic.twitter.com/S3kDqz1hX4— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 20, 2022 “Four years I’ve been listening to lies said about me and I haven’t come out to rectify them. Four years listening to gossip, four years of things said to damage me and I never responded. Perhaps that was a mistake…. I reject anyone that says I’m not part of the project. I reject anyone suggesting what my intentions are. I reject anyone talking in my name. I’m still under contract. I’m still available for the club. I will still give my all.” Lol this drama is incredible
Yeah, Sevilla, Valencia, Depor besides the cockiness also seem to hate us, lol. I want us to win all our titles but if we screw up in Copa (not unlikely), I want La Real to win it.
I don't disagree, I don't think Real Madrid would ever do that. Also the statement from them is silly. I just don't disagree with the principle of it.
Dembele just got married, he can spend the 4 months making babies or on the pitch seeing out his contract, I doubt he really cares all that much tbh
There's nothing wrong with not playing him, or even never calling him up. You have a right to prioritize the development of other players. We have done that with Bale and James. I think the problem is with the Barcelona statement, saying it's because he won't renew his contract. They are pressuring him into either renewing with their financial terms or harming his career. That's not a good look.
Different context, but It happened to Beckham for a few games back in 2007 when he announced that he signed for LA Galaxy. Capello didn’t call him for a few games.
This was my point which got ignored. You can't say you're punishing the player because he doesn't want to extend his contract. Now it becomes something entirety different.
Summary: I ain’t going nowhere until the end of the season, when I’ll pick my new club. Until then I’ll play if you want me to, but no biggie if you don’t. Good lad Ousmane, don’t let those hoodlums push you around.
He’s not as well as he’s making out 🚨| Football super-agent Mino Raiola is in ICU at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan due to a lung disease. His situation is serious. @BILD #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) January 20, 2022
One of my favorite seasons was 06/07 where we were kind of crap, Beckham signed a pre-contract with the LA Galaxy, and Capello got mad and dropped him with much the same logic Barca is using now. But Beckham didn't give, up, kept his mouth shut, kept training hard, forced his way back into the team and became a key part of that cardiac inducing, never-say-die, run to the title.
Agreed. The ending for Beckham was looking pretty shitty but he was key in several matches in the final part of that season. Kept it professional and gave his all when he did play.
Beckham scored some nice goals that season. I was so happy for him to win a title with us. One of my favorite players.
Barcelona had 8 days rest prior to this game. Bilbao had half that, 4 days. Would be shambolic for Xavi not to win this
