Looking less and less likely free agent MF Júnior Moreno returns to D.C. United for fifth season after engaging in talks for weeks, sources say. Club turning elsewhere -- and perhaps looking for homegrown Moses Nyeman to step into greater role. #dcu #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 18, 2022 Like today could get any worse...
So we are fuuuuuuckkkkkeddddddd. How could things be so bad? Did Flores and Rooney combined actually destroy this club for a few years?
So if the club doesn't agree to either the Club America offer or the "record setting" offer from within MLS for Paul Arriola does that mean we will have a disgruntled Arriola on our roster this season?
Im hearing that Club America of Liga MX has just sent over a THIRD offer for USMNT winger Paul Arriola. Deal could be closed as soon as tonight I’m told. Still a few details to work out. Ame keep on pushing for the San Diego native, ex Xolos player. #USMNT 🦅 #LigaMXeng— herculez gomez (@herculezg) January 18, 2022 Paul's gone
Imagine the deal goes through with Arriola and we still end up leaning on Nyeman after letting go Moreno lol
At least they didn't mention more opportunity for Drew Skundrich. That seems mean, I like Skundrich! But he's not in future plans, like presumably Nyeman is. The funny thing is, if Nyeman is any good, he'll be sold, so back to... Drew Skundrich!
1) I think we will eventually take the money, just a matter of where. Clearly, the rest of the league smells DCU blood in the water 2) He's a bigger and better man than Lucho was 3) See #1
Lots of that was what caused 2021 to be a wrap. It's amazing how many games we missed due to injury. Near record levels if memor serves.
Went from 4 season tickets to 2 this year. I think it may be easier to go to none for 2023. This is a cheap, miserable ownership group. If they won't spend, don't expect Losada to be here next year. The only class thing about this franchise now is Dave Johnson. Who knew Loudoun got promoted to MLS after last season?
I was thinking about making some FIRE JASON LEVIEN shirts kinda like the Fire Dan Snyder ones from a couple of years ago...
I'd take McCarty in a heartbeat. Didn't he just captain a team that hardly lost this past year? Never had interest in Larentowicz and I think he's retired.
I believe I've purged most of the dumb shit (including my responses) from this thread. If I missed something please let me know. Also - we can refer to and criticize job performance and decision making without denigration and personal attacks. So let's keep it the content and discussion respectful and move forward.
I kinda like Drew Skundrich, but I didn't expect to have to like him quite so much. There are three things in his favor: 1. He hustles and he's versatile; 2. he was the only DCU player in a recent game to have all his shots on target, and 3. he's married to the captain of the title-winning Washington Spirit. That should be enough to keep him at least on the bench this season.
No matter the cash involved? Arriola is not THAT valuable -- and I am not one who thinks poorly of him.
While I agree or focus is to press the other team and take possession high on the field, I am at a loss to understand who or where are those lighting fast counter attackers?
If DC get the reported 5 Million for him, I think that is a good bit of business. I really don't rate him that high. A good useful player, imo, worth a high TAM salary or a low DP that is bought down. More than that I don't see it and if someone is willing to overpay. Fine.
If we don't start getting some pretty serious reinforcements it's going to be a very tough season. I thought we were very mediocre last season but with good coaching we punched above our weight. So far we are losing some good even impact players and have brought in nothing. If making the playoff was a real stretch last season, this season its over the horizon. I absolutely don't get why we are being so tough on Andy Najar who was our best player in the back and who contributed to the attack and paid 100k, when we have a DP flop in Flores who was either not effective or off the field who we are paying 1.7Million per year. And you look at someone like Asad who couldn't even get on the field and DC were paying him 550k or Reyna at 775k. Our Front Office seems to be playing the opposite of moneyball, with players they are bringing in.
Totally agree. If the new hires in the front office were supposed to improve our player decision making I see no evidence, in fact quite the contrary. A good thought experiment is to compare our starting 11 with other MLS teams on a position by position basis. On the vast, majority of teams we would not even have ONE starter ahead of the other team. And against some of the best teams the difference is scary.
This more than a little stupefying. Granted, in professional sports, no active players are untouchable except for living legends like Wesley Unseld, Ovi, Cal Ripkin,Jr. or Johnny Unitas. But, Arriola comes close because he's been our one sure bet to be selected for the U.S. National Team. And, it's coming apparently because Arriola has had enough and doesn't want to play here anymore. If this goes down, that's likely the end of my season ticket renewals.
