Before searching for the headline, does anyone care to guess where NYCFC is playing their home CCL match? Hint: it's not RBA or Yankee Stadium or Citi Field.
Full disclosure that I have NOT looked at anything before guessing. I'm going out of the box and saying Subaru Park. The only reason I'm guessing this is because I know Gotham FC played a "home" game there for Carli Lloyd, so this seems like as good of a wild guess as anything. EDIT - Right general concept, but I was WAY off on the location.
In all honesty, this does kind of make sense. Their first leg at SdG is on February 15th. This game is on February 23rd, and then their season opener is at the Galaxy. So instead of multiple really long flights, they'll probably do a training camp, these matches, and just stay in California through the Galaxy match. Outside of the box for sure, but I can see the logic behind it (even if it does give their fans a pretty gigantic middle finger for their foray into the CCL).
And FWIW the next match for NYCFC after LAG is in Vancouver. While the optics are poor (seriously, at this juncture does anyone connected with NYCFC give a fat rats ass about the stadium optics any more?) it makes sense to go to Cali and stay there.
Maybe the new mayor will support an ordinance to make the continent and the western hemisphere smaller.
You would think there's some stadium availability in New York State if the NYC metro area wasn't an option.
Honestly, probably not. Yankee Stadium is unavailable. They do some nonsensical winterzation of the field at this time of year and NYCFC can't get anywhere near the stadium.. It's probably not worth the effort to open RBA for the 150 people who would show up and I don't know the availability of Citi Field, but trust me when I say you don't want to be anywhere near that building in February.
New York is a big state, Philly is closer than say, Albany. Hartford just as close. NYCFC fans have proven their bitterness when the club is forced (or forces itself) to move matches, why should they reward a fan base that pisses on games in Jersey? Thx, Jay!
I have no problem with treating the first round of the CCL as a pre-season match. After all, it is a pre-season match. It's a nice trip for NYC fans to go out to the West Coast and watch a couple of games away from the frigid cold of the Northeast.
Exactly. Living in Lubbock, I'm 3 hours closer to Albuquerque and OKC than Houston, and Denver is essentially the same distance as Houston. On New Year's Day, the northernmost part of Texas (Texline) had a windchill of -8, while Brownsville had a heat index of 93, a 105 degree difference in felt temperature in the state. Port Arthur, TX to El Paso is 889 miles, Port Arthur to Chicago is 770 miles. Brownsville to Texline is 956 miles, Texline to Canada is 960 miles. El Paso is closer to California than Dallas. Dalhart, TX is closer to the state capitol of 6 other states than Austin. You can fit 5 New York's into Texas (and 221 Rhode Islands). https://external-preview.redd.it/FI...bp&s=7114ed0678d370476301984fc4f2a99fbb89cd44
