Erik Sorga is heading to Sweden. Looks like we got around $450K in transfer fee. NEWS: D.C. United Announce the Permanent Transfer of Erik Sorga to IFK Göteborg➡️ https://t.co/78LJWMxPQb— D.C. United (@dcunited) January 8, 2022
I'm not sure if these guys are on the restricted US international list, but I wouldn't mind if we figured out how to sign Horvath and maybe get a loan deal for Hoppe. That would help them and it would help us. No international slots needed, and the pair would probably cost us less than $800K in salary plus transfer fees. Maybe then look for a DP that's going to challenge Flores and Arriola.
$50000 loss (plus salary) on someone who scored 88 goals in the minor leagues and 4 in the majors. The Lucy Effect is in full bloom. Thx, Jay!
Is that factoring in the international slot value? He was acquired before she arrived. Perhaps the player's value diminished due to lack of play.
The amount of negativity and impatience I've seen online the past couple of days about DC United after this move was announced is incredible.
Agreed, this was just a "meh" move at best. Yes, Sorga tore up the Estonian League which is so lightly rated by UEFA that he wasn't eligible for the Golden Boot. Dominating a beer league is fine, but doesn't mean much. For VVV Venlo he scored 3 goals in 11 matches in the Dutch Second Division. The guy was behind Adrian Perez on the depth chart on merit. The fact that DCU got 450K for his contract is found money.
It might. Didn't we sell off an international spot not that long ago? In which case it was just a net gain of zero international spots. In the end getting rid of Sorga was good, because no one on the team is irreplaceable.
This is probably the slowest defense DC United has had in many years right now. We need to get 1-2 guys with some pace or we're going to get burned by every fast passing team or team with decent DP at forward/wing.
Watching him play it seemed he was coaching the younger players during the match. I think this is a good move.
LOL @ new jersey, metros gonna metro Chicago takes a time-out at #7 so metros have time to trade $100K to Montreal to get up to #11, then trade that #11 and another 100K to Da Fahr ... to pick a very tall defender in the Navy (who I assume has some duties to fulfill before reporting to jersey)
There's rumors out there that DC are going to offer Dane Jacomen from UPenn a homegrown contract (https://pennathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/dane-jacomen/19163), so it's a good bit of business to get $100k in GAM for a pick they didn't want to use.
Sofiane Djeffal Midfielder Oregon State DC acquired the pick from SJ via a trade on 01/11/22 [GAM] Overall Pick: 36 Alex Nagy Forward Vermont Overall Pick: 41 Skage Simonson Midfielder SMU Overall Pick: 69 New players
Djeffal scored 18 goals and recorded 19 assists in 62 appearances (62 starts) for Oregon State University from 2018 to 2021. In 2021, Djeffal scored six goals and recorded six assists in 19 appearances on the way to being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year in addition to being a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Simonsen scored 10 goals and recorded four assists in 27 appearances (26 starts) for Southern Methodist University from 2020 to 2021. In 2021, Simonsen scored four goals and recorded three assists in 16 appearances (15 starts). Prior to joining Southern Methodist University, Simonsen spent his Freshman and Sophomore seasons with St. John’s University from 2018 to 2019. He scored nine goals and recorded 10 assists in 38 appearances (31 starts).
I think Djeffal is actually a great selection. We've lacked two things over the last decade, physicality on ball and passing acumen through the middle. That's basically what this guy is all about. Will he be ready right away, nah, but it's probably a better superdraft selection than we've made in a while.
My all-name draft list would have started with him and Kip Keller followed by Tristan Trager, ending with the unfortunately named - and illegal in all states except Arkansas, Alabama, North Carolina, and Florida - Chase Niece
I agree with this. I appreciated Kamara's productivity. Even accounting for all of the PKs, the man scored goals. But my sense is that it wasn't his normal performance, and a regression to the mean is forthcoming. I'd look to move him IF we can find someone evaluating him based on 2021, rather than what we would expect in 2022.
