I mean great for us though if they get their act together and can take points off Mexico and Panama next window.
Jamaica is going to play a real spoiler in the second half of these qualifiers. As they continue to integrate these talented attackers, they're going to continue to improve. Antonio/Bailey is right up there with the best in the region in terms of offensive firepower. I'm glad we're done with them. I do think their central midfield is still not up to the standard required to be Ocho contenders. They're still using JeVaughn Watson, who MLS gave up on 5 years ago. But they're still going to ruin somebody's day. As I said earlier in this thread, I think Panama is going to come down to earth in this next window with three tough games. I won't be surprised if both Jamaica and Costa Rica think they have a shot at 4th place after this next window.
Yeah, maybe they have others who can play in central midfield. Or perhaps the new coach can recruit some guys.
Panama's window this go-around is at Costa Rica, home against Jamaica, at Mexico. If I were betting, I'd say one or two points is a lot more realistic than 4 or more points. If 1-2 points happens and the US wins its home games in this window, qualification should pretty much be sealed with a win at home against Panama regardless of the outcomes against everyone else.
The same twitter account above that had the Gray news also said that Bailey is out with injury for at least another 3-4 weeks so he will miss the January international window
Just a counter opinion: Jamaica is going to recognize it’s too little too late and won’t pose any particularly difficult challenge over last 6 match days — especially on the road.
Is that what we said about T&T last qualifying cycle? Sometimes teams with nothing to fear are the most dangerous. I expect Costa Rica and Jamaica to throw the kitchen sink at Panama in this next window. Its do-or-die time. If Panama can come out of those two matches with 4 points, then the top 4 is all-but-determined. Then the top 3 is probably determined by Panama's game against the USMNT in matchday 13. Basically, it's all on the line in that Jamaica-Costa Rica-Panama-Mexico round robin. There are some fascinating and hugely consequential games in there. If you're a US fan, you're rooting for Jamaica to pull off some wins there.
In this window, my two favorite teams are the US and whoever is playing Panama. If the US can be +4 or more over Panama in this window, then all the US will need in the last window is a home win against Panama. The best thing outside of US wins right now are Panama losses.
I'd prefer we show we've finally gelled and blow the doors off teams and not have to worry about what anyone else does. Do I get any more wishes oh wise soccer genie?
Demarai Gray has secured his Jamaican passport and is ready to be called up for the January window Demarai Gray is set to be granted a Jamaican passport and recieve a call up for the three World Cup Qualifiers at the end of the month. Thanks again, Athlone! I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates the continuing info and updates on Jamaica.
Seeing some chatter around Twitter that VAR is going to be used for the remaining CONCACAF Qualifiers, but can’t seem to find an official source anywhere. Anybody else see anything?
I'm glad the USMNT is done with Jamaica this cycle.................. 4 points earned and happy to get it. The attack is vicious when healthy and available. Thanks for the updates. We haven't heard the last of Jamaica. Some winnable games in this window. Victory over Panama, and the possibilities for the World Cup are still there. I'm really intrigued by your home match against a Mexico team that hasn't been in good form.
I think the commentators mentioned this during one of our more recent matches. I've Googled it, and all I'm finding are Jamaican sources, but those include what appear to be the two biggest newspapers in Jamaica (the Observer and the Gleaner).
Yeah, they talked about it in the last window that they were adding it in January. Which is really odd, but better than not at all IMO.
There have been sources in Central America as well. This one comes from the Salvadoran media. There will be VAR for the CONCACAF qualifying for the month of January. (Via @radioyskl) pic.twitter.com/1ApE5oJFdG— USMNT Universe (@UsmntU) January 4, 2022
And now that we have no more games against them, I think we want them to do as much damage as possible. I still don't think it's crazy that they could sneak into 4th place by the time everything is said and done.
