A "buck fitty" is an insulting offer for the player who was possibly the best and most consistent player on DCU, not to mention one who is revered by supporters.
Absolutely! And that's with Najar giving a 'thanks for reviving my career' discount. I can't believe they would lowball him like that, it's asinine.
And that would be a bargain considering the average non-DP salary is now about $400K. Andy is performing at a significantly better than average level.
Huh. Didn’t know it had gotten that high. Yes, he’s certainly performing at an above-average level for MLS. Offering him a $150,000 salary is asinine.
Players available to Charlotte (who haven't been let go by DCU): Kempin, Martins, Moreno, Odoi-Atsem, Skundrich, Smith, Sorga. (DCU is in contract talks with Martins and Moreno.) In expansion draft, Charlotte will select only five players league-wide (out of more than 200).— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) December 13, 2021
Moreno and O-A seem the most tempting of that group. If we were looking to get a DP CM, I might have kept Moreno on a string just to preserve O-A as depth.
If Charlotte only gets to pick 5, none of the DCU players will get picked. Felipe is too old, Moreno is out of contract and would have to be re-signed, COA is just "a guy" as is Skundrich. Anyone who would pick Kempin needs a complete mental and physical workup.
Don't underestimate how important old, aka experience and leadership, might mean to a new team. Or how important having that "guy" that will simply run his ass off for you is, especially for a new team - remember how cheap he is too.
Skundrich is a guy who would "run his ass off for you," and he's cheap. If he gets picked (unlikely though it ay be) his wife, Washington Spirit captain Andi Sullivan, would probably wrangle a transfer to the NC Courage, to the detriment of the reigning women's league champs.
I always forget they are married - and it was nice that the leagues managed to care that they are in the same city ..... but I would not expect Charlotte to care about that at all (unless it is to actually try to help the Courage ) to be clear, I don't think he'll be chosen ... but I would not discount it quite so easily.
Bad news Kevin Paredes suffered a mild left ankle injury in training. Since he will not be fully fit in time for Saturday's match, he has returned to D.C. United for treatment. No additional players will be added to the roster. pic.twitter.com/USz7FO8XlP— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) December 15, 2021 Even bad news Hearing the LA Galaxy are looking to trade for #USMNT and D.C. United winger Paul Arriola.— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) December 14, 2021
Mora was never going to play another game here anyway. Maybe he signs with Charlotte, maybe he goes back to CR or somewhere else. If MLS is consistent (he-he), means DCU will be exempt from anyone being picked by St. Louis next year. As for the Arriola rumor -- we'll see, if he goes to LAG, at least he won't be haunting DCU in the Eastern Conference.
I always liked Mora, the best slide-tackler I've ever seen. Perhaps he regressed during his last year or so, but I think he became expendable when we went to what is being called a three-centerback defense. Mora isn't rally a centerback and he can't compete with Paredes as a wingback.
Charlotte taking Mora is a huge win. $50k in funny money and exemption from the next draft for a guy we were waiving anyway. We fell out of the lucky tree and hit every branch on the way down.
That was a cheap shot that broke his jaw and knocked a couple of teeth down his throat. Ruan is a thug and hack. Losing him in the expansion draft was a good piece of business.
I have to wonder if they're stupid enough to pull the trigger on a deal like that. First, who could LAG give us, and second a TAM/GAM deal would undoubtedly trigger the supporters and clearly signal that a winner is not incoming. Lastly, I am fairly sure that not upgrading the roster will hasten Losada getting out the door. He called for roster improvements in one of his last pressers. I think there would be plenty of suitors in MLS, South America, and Europe. He's shown he can take a bag of balls and make it exciting to watch while winning a few games. You'd see an exodus of quality people that they've spent the last two years pulling together. And yet it's still possible.
I love Paul Arriola as a "heart and soul" player. However, his greatest trait is his persistence and motor. He never will be a clinical finisher and he's not a great assist guy either. IOW, he's a TAM/marginal DP type of player that is replaceable within Losada's system. If LAG really is interested and offers a significant amount of TAM with or without a serviceable player, I wouldn't be surprised if DCU takes the offer. I also wouldn't be surprised if they say "no." Of course Paul may have his own opinions in the matter as well. Remember his loan to Swansea -- I think he still wants to go overseas.
The ends will justify the means. If we deal Arriola and get two good players who are fairly consistent and not injury prone it would pay off.
FYI Paul Arriola tells @Nicocantor1 and me @USFutbolPod that the @LAGalaxy has already approached his agent about a potential deal. But, at the moment, there has not been any formal offer presented to @dcunited. https://t.co/FoLMjC4G4p— Michele Giannone (@MicheleG3) December 15, 2021
