Their issue isn't going to be this fall, it will be the next one. It will start with the local clubs nibbling around the edges, losing those players will hurt their bottom line. Then they start losing more...
In Naperville you have Nike Park and I think there is another set of fields that the NSR tourney used to play at. Who is on thos fields today? Where does West Eclipse play?
His photos were of results of Chicago Fire, Soccers, and FC United. That's consonant with the theme of the thread.
I was not blessed with girls so there is no interest in this subject. I did not feel right about jumping into heated discussions but this tournament represents where our boys soccer is at this moment.
Too bad. This looked like a great idea: https://chicago.suntimes.com/soccer...tice-facility-northwest-side-gilbert-villegas
The location is dead, but not the goal. I wish they'd build at the old USX site in South Chicago. Or, and I think this would be generally popular, at the 78.
Hanson Park would have been a great area for soccer. Lots of open space to build great fields. back in the late 1970’s Hanson Park was my backyard. Hundreds of kids playing little league baseball on multiple fields. I was the only kid on the neighborhood playing soccer, had to go to Riis Park for soccer practice. All local kids would go to Hanson to play pickup baseball every day. Ah the good old days
How's Indoor and Fut$al going? Only signed my son for just 1 session of Futsal, he got his 1 yr of playing it.
We have a mish-mash of local hired guns playing in a high school league and killing it. They are not learning too much but the smiles and the friendships are growing. It's nice to pour in some fun with local mates to help level off the pressure and intensity.
Indoor for us is a league of HS-age boys who put their own teams together (mostly based on the school they go to), and the rivalries seem about twice as intense/chippy indoors with the confined space and walls at our indoor facility combining to make it rough enough that it can be an uncomfortable watch (my wife and I went to a couple of games -- any more than that might be hazardous to her health). I feel for the refs trying to keep a lid on some of these games.
Anybody recommend a good college ID camp or had their son attend a college ID camp in last couple of years? Curious to hear your opinion & recommendations
The first one my son went to (last summer) was at U. of Indianapolis: https://athletics.uindy.edu/news/20...soccer-set-to-host-id-camp-november-28th.aspx We saw it as a sort of starter camp -- a low-commitment, inexpensive way to see what these camps and the players going to ID camps are like. It was one long day with coaches from six or seven schools, from DI to DIII, and he liked it quite a bit. He has no interest in the host school, but I think it gave him a good idea of how he stacks up, he got a little feedback (though I think he could have gotten a little more with a little more persistence at the end of the day, ...). A lot of people seem to like these camps for sheer volume of coaches, and a couple of my son's club teammates (they're HS juniors) have generated some interest from coaches at these who seem to be keeping track of them. I've been reluctant to do these because of the cost (we looked at what I think were three-day camps that were too close to $1,000 for me, and that didn't include lodging last year): https://exactsports.com/soccer#events-near
I just had some pics come up in memories on fb. It was really fun but by our last year they changed it to all inter-league play which was far less interesting for both players and parents.
Same for up here - which is why when my daughter picks a pocket on the boys it's really entertaining.
MLS: 2022 Generation adidas class 1. Ben Bender (Maryland/Baltimore Armour). Big Ten Midfielder of the Year pick in 2021. 2. Ousseni Bouda (Stanford/Burkina Faso). Right to Dream product, via Millbrook School. 3. Roman Celentano (Indiana/Sockers FC). Two-time Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year. 4. Erik Centeno (Pacific/Sac Republic FC acad.). WCC Freshman of the Year in 2021. 5. Kipp Keller (Saint Louis/Saint Louis FC acad.). 2021 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year. 6. Isaiah Parker (Saint Louis/FC United). Winger had 3 goals, 7 assists as freshman. 7. Patrick Schulte (Saint Louis/Saint Louis FC acad.). Recoded 22 shutouts in 3 seasons. 8. Thorleifur Ulfarsson (Duke/Iceland). Spent last summer with Breidablik first team. I got this from Soccer America. If I'm reading it right, one quarter of the GA class is from the Chicagoland area?
One local in the u15 boys camp. https://www.soccerwire.com/news/u-s...onal-team-kicks-off-2022-with-36-player-camp/
One local in the u15 girls camp https://www.soccerwire.com/news/thi...for-u-s-u-15-youth-womens-national-team-camp/
This is high school-related, but it's Chicago so posting here. Anyone know anything about this outlet and its all-state lists, methodology, ...? I assume they just use coaches' input, but no idea. https://www.chicagolandsoccer.org/landing-page-for-bf2021-as.html
Historically they have a bias for the players on the teams that have paid for coverage on their site.
The Draft is for non-MLS Academy players as HG rights exclude 99% of MLS kids. I think this says a lot for Sockers FC and FC United development. Chicago has talent! Unfortunately, most drafted kids will not get signed by their MLS teams and the lucky ones will get one year minimum contracts with club options. Josh Penn, tricky left footed winger from Naperville/Sockers FC, one year at IU, drafted top ten last year is already out of the league, as Miami released. Hopefully he performs with the Fire Reserve Next team this year as I heard he will be going down to FL for preseason! Good luck to the kid. And to others, stay in school if the contract sucks!
I can tell you that Player of the Year, Kacper Janowski is a baller! Sockers FC product. Physicality and mentality are fantastic. Strong and a winner. Tactically has great movement and vision. Technically has come a long way, and a big college should scoop him up! Maximiliano Ibarra should be co-Player of the Year. He had little help in Plainfield, but hits all 4 pillars of football. I watched Max (former Fire player) in club action with Eclipse last Spring simply destroy Chicago Fire Academy at SeatGeek Stadium with brace in 2-0 friendly win! Bohan is another, ECNL Player of the Year! Yes there are kids that pay to be on these websites, but there are many good names on these lists.
I can confirm that they are uninterested in posting any story or image related to any high school that does not pay them.
