The loan is confirmed: http://mty360.net/deportes/jonathan-gonzalez-dejaria-rayados/ González will go to Aguascalientes only as a loan, since both Javier Aguirre and the Rayados board see with good eyes that Jonathan has a greater participation in official matches and returns with more experience to the Monterrey Football Club. 🤝| ¡Gracias por defender estos colores desde nuestras Fuerzas Básicas hasta el Primer Equipo con compromiso y entrega #EnLaVidayEnLaCancha! hard not to shake your head at this one. it’s like liga mx is in cahoots with el tri officials to help make greggs dual national recruiting job easier
At the time, wasn't he in the Liga MX best 11 at 18? His career trajectory looked very exciting. Even if he just stayed at the same level, he would likely be Adams' backup right now. He didn't, but I don't think it's something anybody could have predicted.
Can we update the thread title to "In Hot Water - Jonathan Gonzales on loan at Aguascalientes from CFM"?

Jona is now off to Queretaro on loan, hopefully they give him a chance to show his abilities! https://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/...an-gonzalez-refuerzos-queretaro-clausura-2022
What would have been. Had he chose the US, played in the MLS, he's probably somewhere in Euro at this time.

Having never watched a second of him professionally, it’s extremely odd that he went from above average starter to a guy who’s barely hanging on. He didn’t have any major injuries either, did he? My thought is that some guys just get burnt out, even though they still keep playing. IDK.
different coaches rate different players...look at lukaku or better example giroud at chelsea......i think many observers significantly underrate fit and scheme in terms of evaluating players. if a coach doesnt rate a player - its basically curtains until they can get to a new club, at minimum..and then they are behind the 8ball as they often havent played much for a while.....then people turn around and judge and say it was justified that they werent playing when their current form is often bc they werent playing. that said, sometimes players do kinda fall off...not an expert on this one...havent really watched him, either
Yeah, that definitely happens, but guys like Lukaku have enough admirers that they can usually find a fit somewhere even after a down year or so. Conte/Inter still saw a lot of value in him while he was at United, even though many thought he was underwhelming there. Maybe Gonzalez just had a hot streak in the right system at the right time, but I’m surprised that no other club in Mexico or even MLS seems to see value in what he brings to the table.
Atlanta wanted him but Monterrey was asking too much. I think that's when Santiago Sosa was bought instead.

Another rumor of an MLS move: One name to watch this summer around MLS is Jonathan Gonzalez. Open to move to MLS, would imagine there'll be teams calling.Gonzalez, 23, is on loan at Queretaro from Monterrey. 114 apps with Rayados. Another rumor of MLS interest: Minnesota United are in talks to sign central midfielder Jonathan Gonzalez from CF Monterrey, per source. Nothing imminent/close yet.Gonzalez, 23, is a former US youth int'l, filed switch to Mexico and has three caps with El Tri.
