There was the 2004 draft where we lost Costa Rican phenom Erick Scott to RSL (where he never played a minute for them). Fun fact Erick Scott still plays professionally down in the CR.
MLS deputy commissioner Mark Abbott will step down at the end of next year— Eric Fisher (@AEricFisher) November 19, 2021
I think that was announced last summer. Maybe I'm mistaken. As for the draft, a lot of people are saying that it's really a waste of time, nobody much available that you couldn't get some other way, why are we even bothering? Anyway, Abbott is literally the guy who invented MLS. Alan Rothenburg was President of USSF and was mostly busy organizing the World Cup. Someone reminded him that part of the deal for landing the thing was starting a pro league but they hadn't done a thing about it. So Rothenberg asked his old law firm, Latham & Something, to send over an associate to put something together. They sent Abbott who was then ignored for six or eight months. When the WC was over he walked into Rothenbergs office with the complete blueprint of how MLS should be.organized and run. Single entity, everything. All him, by himself, shut in an office in LA someplace.
Latham and Watkins. 2nd biggest law firm in the world by revenue, over $4 billion last year. Mark Abbott was the brains of MLS when Doug Logan was commissioner.
Alert! Alert! Alert! Coming at 11 am ET: All 28 MLS home openers in 2022.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) November 22, 2021 Home opener schedule drops at 11. That is all.
Well of course being the smartest person in the room when the other guy in there is Doug Logan is a pretty low bar.
Cllsest I've ever come to hypothermia at a soccer game was two day later than that. And we all need to remember that it's entirely because Qatar bribed their way to a World Cup gig that they couldn't hold in June, which everybody knew but nobody would say at the time, preferring to talk about flying air conditioners.
Ironically I did read an article that the stadia over there do have vents under each seat to shoot cool air and I think bigger vents for the field itself. So flying AC units: nope. But might have actually don't something to be able to cool things down a bit.
ZOMG NEW BALL "Incorporating the national flowers of the United States (rose) and Canada (bunchberry) as well as colors representing the other homelands of MLS players, the new Official Match Ball is a symbol of the league’s extraordinary diversity. The ball’s design reflects the 860 players of MLS hailing from 79 different countries and highlights the sense of unity and belonging within soccer communities around the globe."
It's a f*cking hashtag. The League's Official Match Ball is a hashtag. Sigh. I hate Don Garber and I hate adidas.
No references on the ball to the Trillium flower, the only bona fide Offiical Flower of a MLS manufactured Trophy? ADIDAS dropping balls left and rigjt and I am not talking about these new design announcements...

Interesting that Rochester is the first and so far only non-MLS team involved and they haven't had a team of any kind for a few years. They keep emphasizing the Jamie Varsy involvement but the real juice is the Dworkins, who have the money and aren't delusional. A rarity in second division soccer.
Very curious about roster rules. I REALLY hope this is like a U23 league where registered NextPro players can seamlessly move between the MLS team and this Crew 2. Only thing that really makes sense to me.
Surprised that neither LA team nor RBNY have teams, but the addition of Rochester (and as an independent, not an affiliate) is probably most surprising. Very curious.
Speaking of, has Rochester always had an MLS club page? https://www.mlssoccer.com/clubs/rochester-rhinos/
Big news for #Bham soccer: @bhmlegion to play in the new downtown stadium. Been there for @UAB_FB and it's stellar. It'll look empty for games but our hearts will be full. https://t.co/WIpdai9KdL— Alex Pearlstein (@Alex_Pearlstein) December 7, 2021 Big news for the Crognale's
