BBC Match of the Day picked the moment that Sargent kicked the ball with his right foot into his left leg to sum up Norwich's season.
New enforcements: 1. Bello -> La Liga Celta Vigo 2. M. Robinson -> Borussia Dortmund (loan to buy) 3. Turner -> Southampton Still don’t know where Pepi goes.
What's going on with Josh Sargent is depressing and hard to watch. It's tough when a forward does so much right and can't finish. Jozy Altidore at Sunderland played better than Sargent is right now at Norwich. Of course he was more experienced. Sargent wasn't exactly a prolific scorer at Bremen either, though. He never has been. THis isn't like a player that scored 20 goals in a season in Belgium or Holland or a league of that level and is now struggling in the Premier League. In his previous two seasons he'd scored 11 goals in 69 appearances across all competitions. I know he's young, but on the other hand he doesn't have a track record. He's never done what Jonathan David has done in Belgium and France, for instance. They're the same age. There are some young Americans that we just make excuses for over and over again. People on these boards blamed everybody else for the problems at Bremen. Oh, the coaching is terrible. Oh, he's not getting service. Blah, blah, blah. Sargent not scoring was part of the problem. And it is now at Norwich too.
He'll get his chance to shine in the Championship next season. Norwich's next 4 fixtures are against United, Villa, West Ham and Arsenal.
Norwich had a chance over these matches, after that brutal start, to pull themselves up and at least into a real fight. They didn’t do enough. They needed a full 3 in the match Josh under hit on the open goal, and needed 3 in the Newcastle match being up a man that long. Probably buried them.
I can understand the logic behind assessing Sargent's performance at Bremen. But when the same things are happening with a different team and a different league, it's hard to not look at Sargent and ask "What's the constant?" in this case. It's tough to see, but it's reality. I want to see Josh Sargent become a solid option at the #9 position for the USMNT, but I just don't know if it's ever going to happen.
I mean Norwich are a highly professional organization and they saw something they liked. But if he does fail he won't be the first youngster to be over-hyped. Playing in the Bundesliga or any other league doesn't automatically make you a lock starter for the NT.
Want to know when I knew how destructive social media was going to become? Freddy Adu threads here. They were funny, fascinating, interesting, but in the end disturbing. The radical aggressive defense of him was a sign of all society to come. Logic isn’t for the far reaches of society, unless it benefits their narrow needs.
The Jedi to AC Milan rumours were scoffed at. Prospects of Zack Steffen at ManCity were seen as bleak. Even, the Guardian ran an article querying why ManCity would sign player who had absolutely no chance of seeing the field for the club. While not judging the credibility of this transfer rumour, there is a logic to why Pep could be interested in Sargent. His numbers as related to a team that wants to press and possess are elite. Ultimately, he simply may not be good enough scorer for this level, though. But with great service, he'll have the opportunity to develop the goal creation aspect of his game. Zack Steffen is unlikely to ever play for Man City. So why did he join them? | Manchester City | The Guardian
I think this Sargent to Man City rumor is just a joke. We don't even have to think of Steffen, though Man City signed Erik Palmer-Brown, Mix Diskerud and Jack Harrison from MLS. So..................... He wouldn't even be the biggest Norwich forward bust. There are a lot of others. They paid 11 million for Ricky van Wolfswinkel. Who? Exactly. Sargent was the 3rd most expensive player they signed in this last window alone...................... The first two were Tzolis and Rashica. Attacking players. Sargent has more goals this season across all competitions than those two combined!!!
You've made a pretty compelling case. I don't think it is going to happen. But if it did happen, I think you've hit on why.
It was the Chicago Bears forum for me. When I saw the way people defended Jay Cutler, I realized that truth was no obstacle in this era.
