Between Salzburg, Leipzig, and New York, Red Bull has fired a manager mid-season 4 times. Twice in New York, twice in Salzburg. They really don't like to do it, and it usually takes a whole flood of issues before they do. They've invested 6 years and a lot of money in developing Marsch. I very strongly doubt they're going to cut him loose two months into his Leipzig tenure. It just isn't how they operate.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/rb-leip...tell-us-much-about-the-americans-job-security The mood was a lot lighter on Saturday evening at RB Leipzig's Red Bull Arena after a 6-0 thrashing of the club's favourite opponents: Hertha Berlin. Jesse Marsch was jovial, particularly when asked by ZDF-TV how a man from Wisconsin would describe such a dominant performance. With a big smile enveloping his face, Marsch replied self-effacingly as he might have done growing up in Racine in the 1970s and '80s: "Good job, eh?"
1-0 win against a lower league opponent in the cup. Enough to take the pressure off? They have 3 wins and 2 draws the last 5 league games. However, in the CL they haven’t gotten a single point.
Tight race early in the season in the top half of the table heading into the match against Frankfurt in an hour. Given the way other results have gone today, a win against Frankfurt would take Leipzig up to 4th place and in a Champions League position (tied on points with Leverkusen but ahead on GD). A loss would leave them in a tie for 8th with Hoffenheim and potentially Monchengladbach (but again ahead on GD).
Leipzig allows a leveler at the death. That's a big blow to Marsch's stability. It's not fair to him, because Forsberg missed a sitter a few minutes earlier to kill off the game. He could throw him under the bus publicly to direct blame more toward where it belongs, but he won't I'm sure. Though you have to say it's a problem of Marsch's that his team blows leads. They burn energy early and continue to take more chances than they should later on.
xG was something like 3 to 0.5 in Leipzig's favor. Bad finishing seems to be a pattern with his sides.
Fotmob has it at 3.88 with 8 big chances. Can't blame the manager for that sort of impotence in front of goal.
Leipzig next 7 games: PSG - H (UCL) Dortmund - H Hoffenheim- A Brugge - A (UCL) Leverkusen - H Union Berlin - A Man City - H (UCL)
Leipzig defeat Dortmund 2-1 today, and it's a deserved win and the first truly impressive win for Marsch as manager at Leipzig. My impression is that the results are improving, and even the poor results are starting to shift more from "outmatched" to "unlucky".
Just want to give a sense of how crowded the Bundesliga table is right now: With a win today against Leverkusen, Leipzig will end the weekend sitting in a top 4 Champions League position, one point off from 3rd. With a loss today, Leipzig will remain tied on points in the very middle of the table with 4 other sides, including 12th place Eintracht Frankfurt (albeit ahead of all of them on goal differential).
Good article on Jesse Marsch and the situation at RB Leipzig. Even though most of the news jumped on the SportBild print report, this local reporter goes into a little bit of detail why there is so much inconsistency right now. Reminded me a bit of Klopp's first year at Dortmund tbh. Aufgrund der immer wieder stark schwankenden Leistungen seit Saisonbeginn steht @RBLeipzig Trainer @jessemarsch in der Kritik. Seine Auffassung von Führung könnte zur fehlenden Konstanz beitragen. #Leipzig👉Zum Beitrag: https://t.co/U7tErlw88e pic.twitter.com/VeHrhqp67f— LVZ Sport (@LVZSport) December 1, 2021
Jesse Marsch job’s in real danger since last week - and now after 3 consecutive Bundesliga defeats, RB Leipzig Head of Soccer Oliver Mintzlaff says to DAZN: “It’s a catastrophic performance”. 🔴🇺🇸 @RaeComm #RBLeipzigThe club will decide on Jesse Marsch future soon. pic.twitter.com/8vSbb4QsPJ— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 3, 2021
That would be rough to get fired before the January window despite all his years in the organization. Life at the top level, though, I suppose.
Dead man walking? Jesse Marsch is set to be sacked as Leipzig manager before their #UCL game with Manchester City, according to Sportbuzzer in Germany. pic.twitter.com/0eJUqDAKdR— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) December 4, 2021
Coaches will always be the fall guy. Part of the gig. It’s not always fair. It’s not always right. Coaches know that. They don’t get into the business without knowing or fearing that reality. I feel for Marsch. It doesn’t quite feel like he got a fair shake. But it’s a results driven business and the results are not up to the standards of his bosses. Marsch will land on his feet if fired. Someone will hire him. His reputation is building and I don’t think being fired will be a huge setback.
Why do you feel like it’s super unfair? Am I missing something? In 11th nearly at winter break? Pretty bad performance.
Mostly I was referring to the fact that he hasn’t even coached the last few games. He literally can do nothing to improve team performance or prevent himself from getting fired. But overall this is a VERY short leash to give a new manager. A few months?? Are you kidding me??
I hope this gives some of our future managers some pause. Going into a team like Leipzig, who've been the German darlings of the last 5ish years, and have year over year sold their best players to the bigger teams, was always a poisoned chalice. His odds of success, even without Covid turmoil, were always very slim. And cash rich Leipzig (rich on having cannibalized themselves, mind you) can't stomach not making Europa and having a platform to put more guys in the shop window. I'm in Wisconsin right now, it's unseasonably warm. The walleye fish fry I had yesterday was top notch, Marshy-boy!
