Our new forum tagline is "Make Big Plans." And I have a big plan. As I've mentioned, I'm in film school now. And those I've spoken to in person at games and other Fire events know that I've been putting something together in my head to connect that to the Fire. I'm going for screenwriting, which actually came about because of how much I enjoyed using my position in journalism to just tell stories. And I've had a lot of experience just telling anyone who'll listen about the absolute dumbest things about the Fire. So it's obvious what I really want to do: I want to make a Chicago Fire documentary. But I need some help. I have most of the basic important things I want to hit, I have players I'm going to focus on at certain points, I have a story I'm going to tell. But one of the most important parts about this team, at least to me, is the sheer amount of random fun stories. One of the biggest reasons I find it so fun to talk about these bad years is how much absurd came out of it. Even the good years had a fair amount of "absurd" to it with the amazing relationship between supporters and the club. It's a big theme to this story and I want to hear as many stories as possible to try to fit them into what I'm writing. So what I'm asking for is to just have this thread open for any of you to drop your weirdest, most fun, and most interesting memories of this club. It could be a beautiful personal moment from the good old days, it could be some weird rumor you heard from the bad old days. Even if you think I already know about it, please just tell me about it because you might remember it better than me (I honestly cannot remember which USOC game the family of raccoons showed up to and I know I was in the SkyDeck for it). In the future, I may ask for some help finding footage or pictures (maybe even funds on a kickstarter way deeper into this process), but for now I just want stories. I'll also be giving periodic updates on how the project is coming along because I have a hard deadline for this project. The title of this thread is absolutely not going to be the final name of the project, but it sort of reminds me of the deadline: I want to have this made and released by the time I plan to graduate college and leave Chicago in Summer 2023. The character means "Fire", but the important thing is that I just want to have this out by the time I leave. This is very similar to the old Tradition thread, but much broader to more than just the old days. I want to hear about something dumb Nelson did just as much as I want to hear about something cool Stoichkov did. Anyway, thank you for your (potential) support and I hope that you can all help out with this self-indulgent personal project of mine.
This might not be much for you but one of my most memorable times was when the Blackhawks won their first Stanley cup a decade or so agao (in ages) and Toyota Park had the end of the game on the big screen after the end of the Fire game. Everyone seemed to stay and it was rousing! Sector Latina beating drums to Kane landing the ot goal for victory!
We left after the Fire game was over because it was a school night. On our way to meet our ride we heard the roar of the crowd and the fireworks went off.
The first professional sporting event played in renovated Soldier Field was not the Bears but the Fire playoff game against DC United.
Beasley playing in both the National team match (maybe against Poland? I don't recall, I'm old) and the Fire match the same afternoon. Awesome. BTW, Adam Goldberg, is that you?
Ummm, what is this "Fire playoff game" of which you speak?!? I seem to have a distant memory of attending a few of those in dark and dingy past.
This sounds far more exciting than the game I attended in 2012 when the team showed the pilot for the NBC series Chicago Fire on the big screen after the game.
I bought season tickets for the first year 1998 and every year thereafter and I thought after we won the open cup and went to see them beat DC in the rose bowl for MLS cup this was going to be great. Unfortunately never did I think we would go all these years later with no more MLS cups.
My first ever road trip to Columbus with Section 8 I was right behind Mop Mike as he stumbled into the rest stop and into the janitors closet. There used to be a YouTube video, but I haven't seen it in a long time.
