True, but they're also gerrymandering the crap out of every state legislative and congressional district, effectively guaranteeing their minority rule in many pla
True-- hence the use of "may." But if you make enough people unhappy enough, gerrymandering loses its magic.
They're not shooting anything off. If they get Roe, they may well be able to maintain their utopia with a skeleton crew at the federal level. It's much more difficult to clean up after a disaster (the cleanup would be for Dems to go back and repeal/destroy anything that was done) than it is to create one. Do you remember back when you tried to convince me that this was a smokescreen for their grift? That raging, cruel conservatism wasn't the point? We're now seeing what I've been seeing for half a century- that it was. It was always a plot to reverse any and all human rights advances for the most vulnerable among us.
The revelations at Liberty U convinced me you are correct about this. At least that the evangelical leaders want to run America like they run their flocks. For the rest of the conservative movement, its just the price of the deal.
Just this week, Wisconsin governor Evers vetoed FIVE Republicans bills to further restrict a woman's access to reproduction health services. This is while the Supreme Court are seriously contemplating overturning Roe. This is an all out assault on reproductive rights.
Yesterday I received the newsletter from my right wing Rep. Tom Tiffany. He said the "most vulnerable of us all" are the "unborn."
I hope he's alone in that thought, but I doubt it. Please. Those sumbitches get free cable and flatscreens. And PS5s. Seriously, tho, fvck the unborn. When they actually get here, I'll treat 'em nice enough.
No one has done more for the GOP than Trump. 3 Supremes and he's empowered the Christian Right to terrorize POCs...
One of the pods I listen this past week noted that for many this was not just about abortion restriction, but about governing by conservative rules when the majority in this country are not conservative. It should be viewed with the same lens as the gerrymandering and voting restrictions going on. Beyond that, we should look at this as an effort to become a White Christian theocracy. The Second Civil War will be as much a religious war as it war about civil rights.
After this the Supreme Court will look to overturn contraception. Then they'll move on to Chevron deference. And the war will continue in dismantling the country.
I’d be shocked. That’s strictly a Catholic thing; evangelicals have never wanted contraception to be illegal. I mean, I’m sure someone will dig up some quote from an outlier, but take it from a Southerner. That won’t happen.
After listening to Barret to I wouldn't be so sure. She is all sorts of crazy and Gorsuch didn't exactly fill me with confidence as the "swing" vote he now is.
This is not about Catholicism, this is about White Supremacy via theocracy. As Whites are still the majority in this country, it would not be that surprising that when the current court overturns Roe, that the next challenge about denying birth control will occur. Profolactics are a difficult stretch as they prevent the spread of STIs. But outlawing all kinds of pills are not.
They will absolutely attempt to ban any type of birth control that could (or they think could, regardless of actual medical facts) prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus, because they believe that fertilized egg is a person, and they think denying it a cozy womb is murder. Most hormonal birth control is at risk. They probably won't ban condoms.
There are metrics that analysts use to determine stability of a nation…. I’m pretty concerned….like on a level never considered before….If this was Iraq or Afghanistan , we would have taken measures to try to influence the situation already. It’s alarming how many parallels I’m seeing
Taint Reeves (White Asshole - MS) said they would ban abortion in MS if Roe's overturned. Like MS doesn't suck enough in so many categories.
Reading / hearing stuff like that truly enrages me. Yeah ************************......We should leave that to the states so neanderthal men like you can trample on a woman's rights. ******** you and the horse you rode on. “When it comes to things like abortion, I think it’s clear it’s time to turn it back to the states.” — Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN), on NBC News.
The Catholic Right is WAY disproportionately represented in the judiciary. And while most evangelicals don't agree, the "Quiverfull" fringe and other such outliers might be just enough to cow the rest into outward compliance. EDIT: I tend to agree that they won't make it fully ILLEGAL right away; but they will start chipping away at the foundations immediately. They play the long game.
Principles, schprinciples. If the Supreme Court removed states' rights by ruling abortion to be illegal, this guy would be delighted. What a fraud he is.
