Yeah, the way I always understood it is that they would fight state forces but armed citizens would be so huge in numbers that they'd overwhelm them and win.

I've heard Vietnam being given as an example. "If a bunch of illiterate peasants beat back the strongest army in the world, think of what trained Americans can do!"

So, a few school districts, including a few that are miles away from Oxford (and a few not too far from me), are cancelling school due to copycat threats. A student brought a gun to a school nearby as well.

On a related note, the shooter’s mother and father are unsurprisingly, Trump fans. Guns was one of the reasons they voted for him. And because it is Oxford, it’s not a surprise.

That said, one of those kids that died fought the shooter. I hope that one day we don’t have to see more like this, but after Sandy Hook, I doubt we will.

Ah, yes, 1987. I was still at home, and pulling clothes out of the dryer, ducking under the lid that pulled down as I was next to a window. Not having any other info, dad took me to school. I arrived and was told to wait on the practice pitch with my first period. Seemed quite organized when I arrived. Not sure how it was as the quake hit. (The amazing part is that we all stayed with our classes and didn't really wander around much.)

A football player, too. Reminds me that there are good jocks. At least the QB of the football team at my high school signed my yearbook.

The Mi high school shooter's mother seems very nice. She is a good standing member of the MAGA cult.

Oxford is a mix of affluent people and red neck types. So it’s not a surprise that she’s a Trump voter. Go further north and it gets Trumpier.

Will say with the The big grocery store there always makes for interesting viewing with Oxford’s population.

Bingo. We should look to the end of Reconstruction, not the Civil War, for the likeliest historical analogies.

The people who believe that really don't understand the level of commitment, shared sacrifice, and communal suffering it takes to win an insurgency.

I think the kid's parents had to have broken some kind of law. The timeline, as I understand it, is as follows.

    1. The school sets up a meeting with the parents about his behavior.
    2. They buy him a gun at a Black Friday sale.
    3. He murders people.

#2 seems extraordinarily reckless. I'll leave it to the lawyers to tell us if it actually broke a law.

True. If the Vietnamese peasants had been 260 pounds and access to a Walmart they would have been less willing to make the sacrifices they made to withstand 30 years of war.

Did they buy a gun or buy him the gun? Obviously he obtained control of it. Hadn't heard it was specifically purchased for him.

Well, the militias would attack cops as representatives of the state but would rather attack leftists. Cops will revenge against the right but prefer to beat up leftists. As a result, cops will provide what support they can to militias, such as locations of checkpoints to be avoided or where small groups of leftists are so they can be ambushed.

And if you think this is hogwash, it's already happening in Oregon. I'd also point you towards the insurrection and the behavior of cops there. Or Kenosha. Or....

The meeting itself was after #2; but presumably the meeting was scheduled prior to that.

Okay, awesome. She's a MAGAhead. But what does that have to do with the mass school shooting? Does the article talk about her promoting gun rights or buying a gun for the kiddo? As I skimmed the article, it reads as quite gossipy.
I read something that indicated the meeting on Monday was in relation to something that came to the attention of the Admin on Monday with the students, and the Parent-student-staff meeting was on Tuesday

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/02/us/michigan-oxford-high-school-shooting-thursday/index.html

The first behavioral report came Monday, when "a teacher in the classroom where he was a student saw and heard something that she felt was disturbing,"

The gun-buying was prior to the reports of concerning behavior. My concern is what the parents did or did not do between the meeting with admin and the time the murderer arrived back at the school and started shooting.

While we are seeing example of how cops respond, I think it would splinter the police as some would defend the state over the insurrectionists. They would not necessarily support the left, but I think there would be plenty who did not support the insurrectionists.

To be fair, a lot of the worst of what we see/hear from cops seems to disproportionately come from their unions. That might give us a skewed view of how the rank and file AND leadership might act/react when shit really goes down.

Maybe this is the Canadian in me. However, my concern would be buying my minor child a gun at ANY time, regardless of when the meeting occurred or what happened after the meeting.

Kids should not own guns, ever.

Sure, shooting one under strict and direct adult (an adult who knows what they are doing too) supervision at all times, but they should have zero access at all other times in my opinion.

Agreed. But the anti-violence part of me would say "buying a gun." Full stop.

But I was speaking to the article and the parent meeting with staff.

    Of course not.

Anything close to Vietnam levels of carnage would be unacceptable anywhere in the 21st century, and far less in the West. A couple thousand dead and something would have to give.

I'm asking what somebody who has posted about believing Trump has to do with their child shooting up a school. The article read as click baity sensationalism and nothing to do with the shooting, itself.

The meetings seemed to have been mentioned off handedly early Tuesday after the shooting but not picked up on until late yesterday. As a teacher, it pinged my radar pretty loudly. I'm assuming that the kid made some kind of credible threat. The question, though, was what bigred asked - when was the meeting scheduled. That is important and I was aware of when it was scheduled until the article linked above.
