Sorry, but you don't make the rules around here. You could just ignore me, you know. I have zero interest in antagonizing you (which apparently one does by defending Anson Dorrance from criticism).

On a non-soccer note: Michelle Dorrance will be making her Broadway debut as a choreographer with the opening of the musical “Flying Over Sunset” next month at New York’s Lincoln Center. The recipient of a MacArthur “Genius Grant” is the oldest child of Anson Dorrance.

South Carolina is in the quarterfinals with a solid chance to make the college cup. Oh how a loss can start to look different after a short time.

...Except that they got hammered today with BYU scoring 4 pretty goals (and out shot 26 to 5)

I've watched BYU a few times in this tournament and they are an absolute buzz saw on the attack at the moment. My goodness are they creating some insane quality chances. They keep that momentum up for another week and they win it all.

Don't think UNC we knew even playing at their best earlier in the year would have beaten that BYU team.

Kinda happy to see BYU do well. UNC had one heckuva quarterfinal with them some years back. Ok, so lots of teams were better than UNC this year. I still feel optimistic about next year. I have it on high authority that Sentnor will be the best player next year if healthy.

Just in case you weren’t aware:
Emily Fox started for the USWNT vs Australia today and won Woman of the match.
Lotte Wubben Moy earned her first career start for the English National team today vs Latvia
Alessia Russo scored her first career goal for the English national team today vs Latvia (ended up with a hat trick).
All three of those players could have been on our roster this season with the extra year of eligibility due to Covid.

while Covid has impacted all programs, it has disproportionately impacted UNC. Other schools are able to load up on 5th year players while UNC loses their seniors since our players are good enough to play professionally and on national teams. Just a guess, but if you removed all the 5th year players from all rosters this year, it’s highly unlikely the season would have turned out the way it did since virtually all other rosters (excluding ours) benefitted from 5th year seniors.

And B Pinto who left for the pros after completing her junior year, this past 2020-2021. She left foregoing 2 eligibility years (senior and covid yrs). She was really missed, I thought.

I think Stanford fans might not have much sympathy for UNC’s COVID related player decisions
They lost their 3 best scorers to the pros and two to the uswnt. That’s 60 of their 99 goals in 2019

Great updates on former UNC players. Interesting about the impact of 5th tears players. It was an odd season that I still think had some real bright spots. I think 2022 will be a lot better. I think College Cup likely, natty possible, we’ll see how this ages!

an asterisk is probably required when you talk about goal scoring against PAC-12 defenses.

Indeed, Stanford and UNC are in very similar positions. Both lost three top players after the 2019 season now playing pro and with recent starts on their respective national teams and their records this past season were, shall we say, not up to their usual expectations.

    Funny snark.

now check UNC’s scoring average in the ACC and against the 5 PAC12 teams it played in 2019.
