I think he desperately needs a permanent move away from Chelsea as he will never be first choice there
btw I still wouldn't rule out Vardy being at the world cup, based on nothing but just have a strange feeling he'll be there with the timing of the tournament. He never officially retired and I think he would have been at the Euro's had they taken place when initially planned. Crucially none of the strikers after Kane are better than him
I would rather take Greenwood. Vardy's time has passed unfortunately. Hes still a top striker but we need to keep looking at youth
you take both, Greenwood still doesn't play as a striker for his club. Also you don't look at youth you look at a squad to win the ********ing cup!
I can’t see Vardy being recalled. I am not sure England will copy Germany and have to bring back older players due to younger ones struggling. Maybe if there are lots of injuries.
Can’t see Chelsea selling him for a while. Not impossible Mount exits the club before him as the new contact talks for him are taking longer than expected.
Who gives a shit? It’s about this tournament not the next one… people that cry about youth do so to hide the fact they never actually win
I would take him but he's not going to settle for 1 appearance off the bench. Like at 2018. If we play 1 striker u have dcl Abraham vardy fighting for 1 spot
I simply don’t even think Southgate watches Vardy play for consideration anymore. I don’t think he would have made Euro 2020 had it been held in 2020. There was no reports in early 2020 of him being likely to be recalled for the March matches as far as I can remember
I wouldn't mind seeing Vardy at the next World Cup if hes still got his pace. Hes still Englands second best striker by some distance. You could use him as runner off Kane as Son does for Spurs. Probably won't happen though.
Do you think he would accept a call up if Southgate told him he would likely feature as a Sub (which would be an honest assessment). I highly doubt it, nothing has changed since he last "retired" in 2018.
He said he would only like to come back if there was a injury crisis - so if he keeps to his word it would have be injuries to quite a few players.
"The Athletic has been told his form has not gone unnoticed by Gareth Southgate and it’s believed Kilman is on England’s radar and has been discussed as a potential option at centre-back. Kilman is playing on the right of a back three for Wolves, but he’s one of the very few left-footed options Southgate could call upon." This is interesting. Max Kilman is young and solid, exactly the one who could succeed Mings as the left footed, versatile defender in the squad.
Worth a look in place of Ming's in the next window, I just saw he was ineligible for Ukraine because of this international Futsal appearances for England (which seems harsh as its basically a different sport), Fifa really do come up with some weird rules around eligibility.
Better call him up before FIfa change their rules again and inevitably allow his futsal appearances to no longer tie him down anymore as they do currently. Probably someone who needs an injury to another player to create a place for him in a squad next year.
If he came back he'd have to be a starter. Like I said it probably wouldn't happen. But I wouldn't be againest if it did.
Don’t think he would have to be a starter, the only reason I think it might happen is the World Cup being when it is, I can see him having that as one last hurrah so to speak. I said he would have gone to the Euros as had they been played when originally planned Kane wouldn’t have been fit
Kane was back playing when the season resumed on the 19th of June so I suspect he would have been in the squad for the Euro’s in 2020.
I didn't say Kane wouldn't go either, he would have gone but wouldn't have been fit and Southgate would have wanted a proven striker until he was, that's where Vardy would come in, we saw how little faith he had in Calvert-Lewin half the games he wasn't even a sub
given the scenario, Kane may not be fit to play a real part until late in the tournament, I think he would have, Vardy won the golden boot that season too, it would have been the pragmatic choice and if nothing else Southgate is that
No mention of Vardy in this article from March 3rd 2020 so a return for him wasn’t on the sporting massively talked about in the press. https://www.skysports.com/football/...o-2020-squad-who-will-make-it-hits-and-misses
