To speak in specifics, FIFA may have sold the broadcast space for the tournament but the actual ad space Fox paid for wont be sold (with the exception of the guarantees held by FIFAs few global sponsors) until the media upfront nearest the tournament, which for 2022 which will take place from May thru July of next year. This is unusual because of the tournament being played in the fall vs. the summer as usually the major spring upfront gives you a full year prior to the WC. This is an extra special case too because for the first time the WC will be competing for advertiser dollars vs. the NFL and NBA in season in the US. (The decision to do the tournament in Qatar is a disaster for advertisers because it effectively clutters the associated merchandising space around which the ad dollars get invested to drive - i.e., there will be few if any sports related merch in Grocery/Mass/ecomm channels outside of holiday themed stuff that time of year and the NFL is probably a stronger tentpole in terms of pull for advertisers to invest behind to drive in store during this time of year). Your usual WC gives advertisers a true incremental opp at merchandising (like the summer Olympics) and isolated eyeballs - whereas the market for this cup will be lighter and more akin to a Winter Olympics. And that's even beside the point of the human rights issues associated with this cup making it a tougher sell for some sponsors. All this to say - it's the nets most exposed by Italy and/or Portugal missing the cup though the risk posed is mitigated by the fact FIFA screwed this up terribly for advertisers by doing it in Qatar. Truly the case where outright corruption won out over the hand of the market and what would have been best for players, advertisers and leagues... It's cray.
Why aren’t we playing friendlies other teams are….. for a clean that doesn’t score or pass we really should start getting friendlies
There's no FIFA dates and most clubs are super busy in December. Doubt there's any friendlies scheduled at all.
Here is Chile's squad which looks awful: https://chile.as.com/chile/2021/11/26/futbol/1637884814_935483.html I doubt Mexico will have their stars either.
crzdcolombian Here you go Colombia announce a friendly on January 16 against Honduras in Fort Lauderdale, as preparation for their key World Cup qualifiers against Peru (h) and Argentina (a) at the end of the month.🇨🇴 Colombia vs Honduras 🇭🇳🏟️ DRV PNK Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, US📅 16/01/2022⏰ TBC— Carl Worswick (@cworswick) December 10, 2021
nope, which is why it's kind of a waste. You can probably have a bunch of micros and scrimmages set up during holiday break/before start of FPC that would be more effective. Maybe if there's limited travel/restrictions again, then it's good to have a plan B but that's a stretch. What's the prep to be had? Bolillo is just using his connections to get Honduras some sparring before they totally fall flat on their face (technically they are already there). But we don't get much of anything from this imo.
The rumor I am hearing about the non- FIFA friendly is that the Federation is really going to be pushing hard to get players from the domestic league along with Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, MLS. I also hear they are going to try to bring in James and JuanFer.
It'd be super productive to get a look at Campaz, Atuesta Santi Moreno, Carbonero, etc. Rueda doesn't use any kids until he's forced to. Of course, he may end up using Andrade, Chara, and Otero instead. And that would be a TOTAL waste of time...
Yeah this could actually be really beneficial if he uses it correctly, if he just uses it to push Nacional players it could backfire.
At this point I sort of blame the federation. At what point are they going to stop the 2nd round play off thing. That is way too many games in 1 season. Should be a direct knockout between the best teams. micros for the nt don’t make sense if you aren’t calling players from the best teams
Yeah that was a huge mistake because it was such a no brainer, making a mistake like that and not evaluating the up and coming talent while also playing heavy minutes in older players at the end of a long season is just really bad. Cuadrado/Duvan/Muriel and some others didn't need to be playing as much as they did and injuries later in this season I wouldn't say are the fault of those exertions but they sure didn't help.
And at the end he only won a mach in cup with "experienced starters".....the same position we would reach with the newbies....
It was clear the minute he set the call up. He didn't even fully test out the people he did take... For example, I don't think the Buffalo is the answer but do I really have any evidence either way of what he'd do as a 9? Or even Muriel for that matter?
it was going to be one we could win.... at home... they took it away but still last real title the Falcao/James Generation could win. I mean fingers crossed we make it to the World Cup and my soul to win it in Qatar but I don't think that's happening unless we find a new engine in the MF. James needs to be replaced as well as someone next to Barrios who is more of a Abel. Would love Atueta to be given a shot. But want to see Cantillo - Barrios to see what that does. If the 2012-2014 team didn't win anything that was our shot.
It follows UEFA and CONMEBOL signing a renewed and extended Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the potential organisation of football events, lasting until June 30, 2028.We can safely file this as a clear tactic in opposition to FIFA and its biennial World Cup.— Dale Johnson (@DaleJohnsonESPN) December 17, 2021
