Muriel really has not been used as a 9 option for us since the toulon tournament in 2011. None of our Senior team managers really think he is fit for that position.
Exactly. It's unclear if they actually watch matches on weekend at times. He's never got a real run at the position at which he scores the bulk of his goals in Europe (and is one of the most efficient scorers in the world the past two years)
I think its a combination of having Duvan and Falcao and not a lot of wide attackers combined with our managers just not playing a system/knowing how to use him there. For a few years we haven't played well enough to create chances where we're getting the ball into a 9's feet and have been going cross monkey. 3-5-2 would be so perfect because it allows Muriel and another forward both to be in their preferred roles.
He had the highest g/a involvement per minute last season in all of Europe. There is a handful of players in the world who can do that, if we can't use him correctly that's on our manager. Sinisterra is great, but he's not at Muriel's level.
He does not have to be at Muriel's level. He just has to fit into his tactics and his way of doing things better.
Weeks ago Gasperini said that he would not expect Muriel until after the October break. I guess Muriel has recovered faster than expectations. Now he is saying he may be fit enough to come off the bench on Tuesday during Champions League.
And for Atalanta! It's been rough with no true sub for Duvan or alt striker to play with him the past few weeks. Going into the derby with Inter without him today sucks.
Yes very good for us both. Man I know that Muriel had an insane year, but his underlying numbers are basically better then Messi's on a per 90 basis. Like his numbers are INSANE in terms chance creations, progressive passes, dribbles xG, xA he's like 98th percentile plus. There is no way we can't use this guy better, there is a handful of players over the last 10 years who can do what he's done, even if its been a lot as super sub its nuts.
P.S. it happened again today! Duvan came off (at the usual mark where Gasperini tends to swap Colombian strikers only instead the young kid came on), Atalanta lost the ball, Inter tied and Atalanta ended up on the ropes as the game closed when they had really taken control of it at the end of the first half. (NB: they were denied a close call by VAR too)
crazy what our strikers can do with service and a mf/wingbacks that provide service..... I don't think Muriel or Duvan even went into their own half of the field... they never were asked to defend just score/counter/assist. You know what most people expect of their #9 instead of Rueda who like hey can you play DM when we defend
Actually rueda doesnt try that with their forwards...isnt like they are orderred to defend Borre was lined up as cmf...but the idea was nt being forward in those minutes If

that's a sick goal. I mean everything about it. But we get 50% at best of this from our strikers. I mean WTF!!
