RSL beat Seattle on penalties after not recording a shot (not shot on goal, shot) in the game. Yep, sounds like coach Pablo.
Mhm. It seems the move across the Rockies did not actually change Pablo Mastroeni. #Rapids96 #RSL #Sounders #MLSCupPlayoffs pic.twitter.com/siD8S65dbK— Inside Rapids (@insiderapids) November 24, 2021

I feel dirty this morning. I'm going to need two showers to get this nastiness off me. I can't believe I was tipping the cap to RSL last night - almost to the point being congratulatory - for knocking off Seattle. They did everyone a favor. They did it in true Pablo style. So in the most snarky of attitudes....thanks RSL... I guess. Yuck. Gross. Eeeeew. And to Benezet....... suck it Frenchie. You can stick that French loaf up your.......
Interesting the number of Rapids current/former coaches are in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Gary/Robin I get. But Pablo did what Pablo does and eeked out a win. Suppose that gets him a contract, but dang it hurts watching both the success at FSL and style it happens ..... To be clear. I am SOOOOO happy with Robin as our guy. I hope he gets locked down for a long time here in Colorado. I haven't heard he is trying to be as upwardly mobile as Pareja was, but it probably would be hard for him to ignore if a big name comes calling. Maybe family keeps him here? And I hope Gary does well - until we beat him in the final that is.
Me too. Rooting for Smith and Nashville. I want to play them in the Final. Not only because of the Smith connection to Colorado but because it would be a family affair. My team vs my parents and sister's team as both of them live in Nashville and are STHs.
Most of my mental energy in the past 12 hours has focused on Pablo's crazy 0-shot, bus-parking victory over a Western Conf. mainstay threat. But, being the pessimistic fatalist that I am (attributed solely to being a Rapids fan for 25 years), the one other RSL news tidbit that keeps popping up in my mind is the Rusnak story. Testing positive on game day. Derailing the involvement of this key RSL player in at least 2 key matches. The Rapids and MLS have been somewhat lucky on the Covid front in recent months. But this Rusnak news item is a stern reminder of the potential world our Rapids are still in. Hoping they all can retain the clean bill of health now that the injuries are waning!! But yea, a bit nervous... particularly with the big Covid wave that's hitting our region right now. Relatedly, I'm still wondering if Pablo pulled a last-minute game plan change when the Rusnak news came in... which resulted in the bus parking. With his key role on RSL's attack, perhaps all of their offensive game-planning went out the window when he got ousted. Who knows. Perhaps it reveals that other teams don't have the roster depth and/or the coaching adaptiveness (ability to adjust and reorganize shape/players/rosters) that the Rapids have.
This has been my unspoken fear for the last two weeks. Especially when the week after we won the West the guys were guests at the Nuggets game, went to A Burgundy Affair, were guests at the Avs game, and then helped open the 38 playoff spot for USA-Mexico on 4 straight nights (and you know they went out and partied after winning the West on Sunday). That's a lot of public time for a group that needs to stay uninfected.
THIS. ^ Yea, seeing all the social media posts on their socializing shenanigans at Nuggets, Broncos, Avs games, etc. and watching them in person at the US-MEX promo event at Number Thirty Eight, let's just say Covid safety rules weren't being followed in any form or fashion on any level... all while the state was leading the nation with its Covid outbreak. I was rather shocked considering what's at stake on the calendar. Frankly, this might be my most critical gripe about Fraser as of late... or ever. Considering the Covid mess the team went through multiple times last year, you'd think he'd direct the players to be more cautious during this critical time. And/or you'd think the players would be wiser. After all, who wants to be the Rusnak and miss this/these HUGE game/s in their career. If any of them test positive like Rusnak, I most certainly won't be shocked. But I'll still be quite angry and gutted. (feelings of the Rittenhouse trial)
To be fair, at everything other than the USA-Mexico match the guys were masked or were just hanging out with themselves (which they've done all season). Everyone in their suites at Ball were likely people they've interacted with regularly. Even A Burgundy Affair was largely players, players families, staff, and other team officials. At least the USA-Mexico game was largely outside.
I should clarify... The glaring lack of protocols I noted above were mostly at the US-MEX event. While much of the event was outside, players were milling inside as well at times w/o masks amidst the crowded masses... hugs and handshakes with fans before/during eating, close group convos with fans and friends, etc. Not to mention some maskless mingling with outsiders at the Nugs/Avs games too (noted via player social media). Anyway, I'll leave this concern for now. Hoping nothing comes of it!!
I have maintained for sometime now that if neither team can score during a regular season game they should not get a point; and if they can't score in 120 minutes in a knock out situation they should both get eliminated. I wish I was king.
There's a great like 10 minute version of that song live from Bonnarroo music festival in TN. "It's good to be king and have your own world It helps to make friends, it's good to meet girls"
If it makes you feel better, imagine being an RSL fan and having to credit your team’s success to a Rapids legend.
I’ll always have fond memories of the 2016 season, and it was one of the best season in team history. But Pablo’s style is not sustainable. However, his coaching style fits his playing style: brutal, defensive, and some shithousery.
Calling out your teammate in a public forum seems like a good way to go even if it is a joke between them, some things should remain in locker room. Kids
I'm good with it. If there's ever a time to call a teammate out, even tongue in cheek, the eve of one of the larger playoff games in team history is the time to do it.
Couldn’t agree more. There’s a TON of pressure on tomorrows game. You’re playing Portland - who’s SUPER hot right now. Playing Blanco, who’s even hotter. And it’s the first ever MLS game on Thanksgiving. Nationally televised. Everyone is expecting us to step on that rake tomorrow. Bringing a little levity to the locker room I’m sure is needed. Nerves are probably on high. Win or Lose tho, I’m super proud of the team this year. We earned the spot we are in. No matter what happens tomorrow, the Rapids will always be the first team to host a Thanksgiving game 3-2 for the good guys tomorrow
