Yes dear. “The good news is that you don’t need to be as active as a hunter-gatherer. Even small amounts of physical activity — just 10 or 20 minutes a day —substantially lower your risk of mortality.” Hey I'm good ... I spend at least that much getting up and going to the refrigerator.

Ya think? "Parent instinct" is his excuse. If that's a justification, then parents should be banned from attending their kids games because the game can't have parents coming out of the stands to exact revenge for any offense against their child. The kid in question is 15! Does dad think he should be following his kid around school to 'protect' him in case someone tries to stuff him in a locker? Does he get in the face of any teacher who gives his kid a D? Well, maybe he does!
While I agree with you, I was actually referring to the excuse the parent made that the "referee pushed his son". (paraphrasing )The referee said that the kid was "in his face" and he was simply gesturing (with slight touch) to hold him back. So the kid is obviously a piece of work to begin with. Aggro family all round.
Not to defend the assaulting parent or player, but this is why you never touch players, even if it's "a minor push to get him out of your face". Do it to a youth player and a coach/parent can go psycho on you. Do it to an adult player and you can get swung on.
I wish the news wouldn't cover these stories. It actually normalizes this kind of behavior. I'm not shocked, but disappointed that they covered his face. If he wants to give his side of the story (in which there's no justification for the behavior), then show what he looks like.
I don't think he is actually sorry. He said he'd offer an apology 'man to man' (after blindsiding the referee), but otherwise he just says he wished it didn't play out like that. His anger and attitude is an issue. He didn't come close to taking responsibility for that.
Maybe he can apologize, after he serves some jail time. The fact that he is only being charged with a misdemeanor is absolutely ridiculous.
He's sorry that he has to say he's sorry to try and lessen his jail sentence. I wish this was a felony and that this guy was put away for a year.
I agree with your sentiment, but we all know that it is very unlikely, in our society today, that he will do any jail time. And if he did, it would be strictly punishment and result in no improvement to human or society. A better result would be that he be required to become a certified referee and work a large number (100+) of games at no pay. And have a requirement that he pass periodic assessments or do jail time (so he can't mail it in).
I’m not too worried about this guy improving. I want him to serve jail time so others see that someone else who thinks about this will realize they can go to jail and have a felony on their record when seeking jobs, loans, etc. The officiating as community service idea is good, but I’m more interested in a penalty that will keep next week’s idiot parent or coach from doing the same thing.
Immediately put him onto adult amateur games with Hispanic teams (believe me there are plenty in his area) and lets see how he fares.
So I made the off-hand comment that I need to clean my whistles. I have a pink Pearl linked with a Tornado in one pocket of my bag, and all the rest of the whistles in a ziplock bag. My daughter thought she would be helpful and put the whistles in the ziplock bag in the utensils part of the dishwasher. Whoops. At least I have two whistles I can use this weekend.

Truly horrifying. (While no context could possibly justify it, I am curious what the trigger could have been. I don't see anything in the clip that looks like it would trigger anger at the ref.)
I can only imagine: You unsportingly lulled me into standing at my 18 with a team nearing my goal You recklessly allowed me to wear kit so similar to my teammates that it took three viewings to even find me
