Why they’re really not very good right now. Their starting midfield today was a mess, Lokonga and AMN are probably a better pairing at the base of the midfield than Matic and McTominay, and Bruno is going through a scoring drought at the moment. The service to the front three improved dramatically when van de Beek came on at the beginning of the second half, but Solskjaer has placed little faith in him this season. Defensively Maguire can do some good things, but he isn’t very quick and every once in a while he seems to have a little bit of Mustafi in him. I believe both his yellows today came when pressed.
Absolutely, his head is as big as a Moai’s head in proportion to his body and he moves like a Moai too.
They’re going to play an aggressive pressing system with *checks notes* Pogba, Bruno, Rashrord, Greenwood and Ronaldo(!!!)? Let’s goooo, we’re doing tactics!
I'm not convinced of any Dutch manager but I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later. That United squad is more hype than substance but what else is new in "THE GREATEST MOST COMPETITIVE LEAGUE ON THE PLANET"
Having named Carrick as the interim manager maybe they get frustrated trying to recruit Ten Hag or Rodgers in the middle of the season and make the move permanent, just like they did with Ole.
With the Ole fiasco turning the spotlight back onto the Ed Woodward fiasco, I am really reminded of a quality Athletic article that said the Super League was seen as the off ramp for the American owners. You can see why. Liverpool revenue peaked out on the back of results that are unlikely to be repeatable, and now an old squad needs renewing. Despite Utd's huge EBITDA advantage, just as for Real/Barca, success is too expensive against the toy teams and nation state teams, even allowing for bad management. You can also see why Bayern is about the only team outside of Chelsea, City and PSG which is happy with the status quo, yet nervous about what comes next. Utd's rev is pretty topped out but costs are on the rise. Especially, in financial terms, all the inward cashflow makes the EPL internally less competitive. By this I mean that as an industry, internal costs are rising faster than elsewhere, and also faster than revenue is growing. So within the EPL at least, Utd are once more faced with huge new costs, even to try to secure CL football.
Saw Ole's record. No real commentary - just shocked he had so many matches in charge. The older I get the faster time moves. Felt to me like he just got there.
I spoke to a few PE guys here in the US, the only way forward would have been to have Amazon/Facebook pony up mad dough to facilitate the Super League's goal of guaranteed income for the 1% of the Football world. Now that's not happening. IMO the EPL is unsustainable but since there are "approved" foruhnahs in charge at these clubs, who of course spend loads of money hiring the Mayfair set, all is welll. Gary Neville and Carra can go back to being jingoistic carnival barkers.
The Athletic claiming that Steve Bruce is lobbying hard for the interim United role. Universe, tell me what I must do
Good question~! They could've had Conte after Liverpool blew them out of the water but no, have to keep OGS~! He keeps the players happy~! Could've gotten Conte after losing to Citeh but no... the players like OGS~! Now they're f****d; Zizou wants the France job after Deschamps leaves. He's not going to move from that position unless France says different. Conte's gone to TONLC...and I don't see him lasting through 2022, honestly. Poch wants to be more hands on and PSG isn't giving him that but it won't be until the summer than they'll get him. Koeman is available in a pinch.
Quite ironic ain't it? Moyes and West Ham are fighting for CL football while United are playing for scraps.
As an aside, can we talk about how Sebastian Haller is lighting up the Eredivisie/CL yet West Ham dropped him for...reasons?
Zizou ain't going to Manchester. He doesn't speak English and his wife doesn't want to live in the north of England. I say this . . . because . . . I saw it on Twitter. Seemed legit to me though.
Wasn't the reason he left Madrid because it was dysfunctional? Why would he want to go work with Leonardo and that clowncar?
Yeah - he has already done it all and has little to prove. e.g, winning the CL doesn't seem like it would be a big draw as it is for Poch
Yup. And it's been widely reported for many months that Zidane has his eye on France job once it becomes free.
