So to summarize, we call the handball against an attacker but not the exact same handball against a defender. OK, I can work with that.
So at what age and level do we apply the Considerations and the Futuro? TBH, those are something I had never heard of until reading this board.
Barciur and a few others may get this too, but when I first saw this I thought the ref was giving the NFHS signal* for dangerous play. *among those discontinued years ago in very nearly all jurisdictions
I'm AR on a HS GV game. Visiting captain is a bit confused at the pregame coin toss. CR: Call it in the air. (Tosses coin.) visiting capt: *silence* CR picks up the coin. CR: Say "heads or tails." Capt: Heads or tails.
It’s like when I use my red and black or yellow and black coin. I ask the captain to call colors, and more often than not I hear “heads” or “tails”.
ME: "This is my coin. This is HEADS because it has a picture of a head on it." I say this every time. Why? Apparently I have to.
I always do as well. They still say heads or tails, so I confirm a color before flipping. No Steelers-Lions gaffe for me.
Yes, apparently. I generally don't, but more than once have been asked which side of an Eisenhower dollar was heads. Remarkably, I have never had someone not call in the air. (I did have the co-captains make different choices once, and since then am good about making sure the caller is identified in advance.)
When I do a coin flip, To one team, “This is heads, this is tails.” To the other team, “This is heads, this is tails.” To visiting captain, “What’s your call?” Flip coin.
Chuckle. At least it wasn't like the gridiron captain who said, "We'll kick" instead of defer. The referee felt the need to inform his coach, "Your captain chose to kick." "Yes." "You know that means you'll kick off both halves." "YES!" I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the coach had that discussion with the captain.
I know that I’ve told the story about when I was a gridiron captain and the other team chose to kick while I was containing my glee. When I was a senior, I swear that one of the main reasons that my coach made me a captain was because he knew I’d be able to correctly tell the officials our choice if we won the toss.
22 years doing the radio play by play for high school football, I have never seen that happen. Then again, until the spring I have never seen a whole sideline dismissed. Stick around long enough, you just might see it all.
Today's coin flip, U9 boys: "OK, this side is silver, and this side is black. Call it 'silver' or 'black' when it's in the air, OK?" (nods) (coin flips) (silence) (coin lands on black) "Black!"
Call a foul against red player. Green parent says "She's doing that ALL DAY." I look at my watch. 18 mins into the 9:00 am game. I look at parent and shake my head in bewilderment.
I am not American and I have not seen a full NFL game yet in my life - I really do not know anything about the sport. Can somebody fill me in why you do not want to kick in football? As for coin toss, I have had many instances when I say "blue or orange" and they will still go with "heads" or "tails". I know one official who says "flying eagle or uncle George", and almost often the kids will say "heads" or "tails" instead anyway.
