OK, appreciate the input. I'm all for calling out FoF for the negative Vlatko comments every other post. It really is tiring. Reminds me of the people who kept constantly criticizing Jill Ellis, even after winning the 2015 WWC.
If anyone on the USWNT or on any NWSL team or on any staff position is unvaccinated then they should be forbidden from playing any games for either or associating with others in the organization until they get vaccinated. Also, contrary to what a lot of folks seem to believe, "testing" can not replace "vaccination" but shout be in addition to "vaccination." Being a public figure and unvaccinated is an indication of stupidity and should not be rewarded by allowing such stupidity to be rewarded by exposing everyone around them to a potential carrier. Vlatko Andonovski confirms that the Australian government mandates everyone in the U.S. traveling party be fully vaccinated to enter the country. And he says “everybody that travels to Australia will be fully vaccinated.”And that is as close as he gets to the subject.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) November 9, 2021
Good for Australia! That should be the policy world wide. No one should be unvaccinated at this point unless they are already sick to the point where the vaccine is dangerous and, in that case, they should still be forbidden from traveling.
I'm sorry, but this one-policy-fits-all approach for medical treatment is absurd. Especially for young, healthy people under the age of 30. For those that want and need a vaccine, luckily, several are available to choose from. Also, some people have had Covid and have natural immunity. Israel had one of the strictest vaccination policies but recently changed their visitor policy. They will now allow visitors who have been vaccinated OR have had Covid and have natural immunity.
Oh... Hey... I've been vaccinated and had the booster... Any chance they could use an old, fat, toothless, bald, male goalie?
I'm not finding anything to support this? Anyone got a link or citation-- or even has heard that it is true?
I have seen a woso reporter on social media say that it's probably true (I don't think a reporter is going to say outright one way or another unless they get it directly from Pugh), but I can't find it now. You can also go on Pugh's Instagram and see that she follows multiple anti-vaxx accounts....not that that's actual evidence. It just leads me to believe that it's probably true. She was one that I had in mind in my earlier post of some "usuals" who might not make this roster.
Also note: Press and Dunn have decided to take time off for the rest of the year, so hopefully we'll see both back for January camp. EDIT: I'm guessing Ertz is still recovering....why was she playing so many minutes at the Olympics, if she wasn't really recovered from her injury? Did playing aggravate it?
Don't be surprised if they change back pretty quick-- there are studies now showing that "natural immunity" fades a lot quicker than vaccination immunity. And that vaccination protects against breakthroughs much better than natural immunity. Vaccination and an annual booster is looking like the way to go, even if you have had the disease. The clotting problem with the J&J vaccine? 48 possible cases for 15 and a half million people vaccinated in the US-- possible cases. Anaphalaxis in the others?-- 2 to 5 cases per million shots. And if you stay the half hour it will come on while you are there, and they know how to treat it. Get the shot, dammit-- you are far more likely to be killed by something you buy in the grocery than the shot, and way way more likely to be killed by Covid.
Interesting note from Vlatko on January camp: Vlatko says the results of these #USWNT vs AUS games "will not make a big difference" to who they call into January camp and for the most part players who won't be called in for Jan have already been told. "We may see a couple of changes here and there."— Steph Yang | Horrible Soccer Goose (@thrace) November 9, 2021
Agreed, we have to deal with this anti-vax rhetoric everywhere else on Facebook and other platforms, the least these threads can do is keep the focus on the professional athletes. I don't care if you or Billy Bob McCoy didn't get vaccinated, you're not sweating and sharing water bottles, sneezing, rooming, or in close proximity to a bunch of other professional athletes, coaches, managers, and a bunch of hardworking staff members that don't want to get sick. These people are and they should be vaccinated, like yesterday. Mallory Pugh and Trinity Rodman refusing to travel to Australia and represent the USWNT in two friendlies in the start of a new cycle that leads to the 2023 World Cup is a head scratcher. How many chances do these people think they're going to get? They are neither Christen Press nor Chrystal Dunn. They are talented and are top players this season in the NWSL but the season is nearly over, and we are getting some amazing talented players from NCAA next month drafted into NWSL and other professional leagues. Rodman hasn't even been called before on the senior squad so she should be elated and take advantage of the opportunity. She like anyone else that's young, new, and inexperienced, can be replaced in a second.
definitely a breath of fresh injected. Hope Vlatko gets an pass on this one than the usual ‘Fire Vlatko’ if we loose or draw. I mean it will take time to get the chemistry needed with newbies, but you never know, could be an wide open game if the players natural abilities are allowed to take over(instead of being over coached into a certain system)
as am i! huh? that seems a stretch. informed posters always knew that the ussoccer wnt coach had to follow the terms of ussoccer’s contract with the players. post olympic contract games ended with the contests vs s. korea. so his options are greater. excited to see them operate in vlatko's old style with macario in lauren holiday's engine room. and yes, i'm a bit upset that pugh and rodman (hopefully they're not antivaxers) aren't on the team. anxious to see their speed and skill incorporated soon.
very true about sanchez's improvement. been following her since ussoccer u17s - amazing dribbling and scoring, ucla, and now the pros. my prediction was that in spite of the fact that she had "game", she would not have the strength, quickness, and toughness to make it to the top of the women's game. she's not there yet, but she's definitely on her way!
Anyone know a good Financial Institution that I can use to secure a Loan to purchase all these new USWNT Jerseys to remain up to date and avoid the appearance of favoritism?
I cannot imagine anyone suspecting you of any individual favoritism; group favoritism, well, you wrote the book...
It would be interesting to see how this lineup fared against Australia: GK: Bixby RB: Huerta LB: Fox CB: Cook, Davidson MF: Sanchez, Sullivan, Macario F: Balcer, Hatch, Weaver Talk about a young and inexperienced team! That's it.
I'm most curious how this new defensive half will fare against Australia's attacking third lead by Kerr.
I never understand why feds limit the size of game day rosters like this: The roster features 10 members of the 2020 Olympic Team and 12 players with 10 caps or less -- including five uncapped players -- and has an average age of 26.3 years. Andonovski will choose 18 players to suit up for each of the two matches. When you can use 6 subs (and the likely availability of 2 concussion subs if needed), it doesn't make sense to only have 6 field players subs available. The NTs should want to have more subs involved so you aren't stuck with an odd injury sub that hurts the match.
love – Love – LOVE the way (with very few exceptions) the USSF captures the exuberance of the youngsters with grinning from ear to ear pictures like HOLY SH1T, I’ve just made the Roster for the Greatest Team in the Universe. While for the experienced players, their images are the full-on Bad-*ss scowl, mess with us at your own peril, you don’t want any of this, I’m in possession of a valid Bad-*ss Certificate……..Portraits.
I don't expect it to change anytime soon because the new tourist regulation was just ratified: https://hamodia.com/2021/10/26/israel-ratifies-new-tourist-regulations/ I'd be curious to see those studies because I've read the opposite. One study I read reported that natural immunity offers 13x better protection against the Delta variant than the Pfizer vaccine: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.24.21262415v1.full.pdf Another "Study on Pfizer's mRNA Vaccine" posted in The Lancet reported: Effectiveness of Covid-19 Vaccination Against Risk of Symptomatic Infection, Hospitalization, and Death Up to 9 Months: A Swedish Total-Population Cohort Study Findings: Days 01-15: 92% effectiveness Days 15–30: 47% effectiveness Days 121-180: 23% effectiveness Days 211–: Zero effectiveness Interpretation: Vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic Covid-19 infection wanes progressively over time across all subgroups, but at different rate according to type of vaccine, and faster for men and older frail individuals. https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3949410 From personal experience, two acquaintances who had Covid back in late December, were contemplating getting vaccinated last month, but decided to check first whether their natural immunity had waned. They were pleasantly pleased to discover that 10 months after their bout with Covid their IgG antibody counts were 'high' to 'very high'. That's not to say this holds true for everyone, but it is encouraging. A better test for antibodies would have been to check for T-cell and B-cell counts, but it's an expensive test. I'm glad that several vaccines were developed, but not everyone's body reacts the same after receiving the shot. While the vaccines offer protection for a majority of the population, they have proven to have a deleterious effect on others. The CDC's VAERS portal has a reported 7,000 deaths from Covid vaccines and more than twice that number of permanent disabilities. I am not posting these stats to discourage anyone from being vaccinated, but rather to provide a rationale for those who don't feel comfortable being forced to take a fairly novel vaccine whose long-term effects have not yet been determined. Having said that, I don't criticize, advise, or praise people for their choices. I feel like it's a very personal matter and that each person, in consultation with their doctor, should make healthcare choices which is in their own best interest.
If you don't want to discourage anyone from being vaccinated, let's put some of that in context. There's a CDC study that basically said the opposite of the Israeli study. Both studies have some issues with bias. But, the vaccine is still very effective against developing a severe case of COVID-19 or dying from it (see below on how even the Israeli study showed that). Most importantly, a key point is that to have natural immunity, you have to get COVID. What your body has to go through to get that natural immunity may mean severe symptoms (some of which linger for people, i.e long COVID) or hospitalization. Also did you actually read the Israeli study? I ask, because it also showed that "Individuals who were both previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 and given a single dose of the vaccine gained additional protection against the Delta variant." (I had to only read to the 3rd page to see that.) In other words, get the vaccine, even if you were previously infected. Also while the difference between the two groups studied was significant, the actual numbers are small. Out of the 32,000 people studied, in the first model in the study where time of infection or vaccination was accounted for, there were only 238 infections in the vaccinated group and 19 in the previously infected group (191 and 8 symptomatic, respectively). Out of those infections, only 8 in the vaccinated group and 1 in the previously infected group were hospitalized. No one died, so they couldn't even compare death rates. You can work out those percentages for yourself, but in other words, both groups had strong defenses against severe illness or death from COVID. The best yet was among those who were previously infected AND received one dose of the vaccine. Another point: 7,000 deaths from the vaccine are also not necessarily causally related. VAERS takes reports of anything from anyone, and you do not have to show causality. Again, there is no proof of all of the deaths reported in VAERS being caused by the vaccine. And even so, those correlated deaths are somewhere around 0.002% of the vaccinations....miniscule.
