I think i remember a similar moment when he was literally standing on the halfway line with nothing happening, mucks about etc
🚨 EXCL: Newcastle manager search down to final 2 — Unai Emery + Eddie Howe. Emery preferred candidate. Will come down to whether #NUFC are prepared to meet 49yo’s personal terms & pay the sort or money he was on at Arsenal. Compensation to Villarreal €6m https://t.co/qDwX4ANuTA— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) November 2, 2021
Is it too late for me to get my "A" license and work my way up the pyramid. I'm pretty sure with a little paperwork I could get a Polish passport, if that would make it easier to find employment.
So interesting Athletic detail - Levy did offer Kane more money. So clearly he still wants out. https://theathletic.com/2925500/202...ed-to-fail/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983
Unai to Tyneside: Glutton for punishment? Feels his time to really prove himself (in England) has arrived (again)? Just following the money?
More than anything, this seems to reflect how poor the current manager pool for potential replacements sits today. If Newcastle decides to go with Unai, then I don't see that going well since he's never been able to demonstrate strong leadership of a side that a) is expected to win domestically, and b) has a lot of top-level talent and egos that come with it. Finally, it's hard to say how much influence Unai had on player recruitment while he was here, but I don't think that is a particularly strong suit for him either. And Unai also doesn't seem like the type to go to his Board with a list of players to be brought in or else he's leaving. Howe seems to be the wiser managerial choice, but he has no expertise managing a top side. He's hardly the candidate that Mbappe or Haaland woud say "I want to go play for that guy." Those guys can get fat paychecks playing for larger clubs with better managers, so if the money is largely the same then I don't see top players going to Newcastle for either manager.
For all the criticism at the lack of money in the first few years when Arsenal moved to the Emirates, that's nowhere near the level of dumpster fire the cost overruns involved with the THS invoked. I'm hazarding a guess here and feel that those cost overruns severely limited their chances to strengthen the squad.
I say he'll be gone by the end of the season when he realizes that Levy won't pay £45 million for a 32-year-old winger that Conte desires.
I would think so too. But then it seems weird that Conte would take this job without assurances that they'll spend to upgrade in areas he thinks need it.
I know he's going to get paid and they'll get him the players he wants in January, but (if hired) Emery will be with a more dire squad than Arsenal. Does he really want to downgrade into a firefight whist Villareal are still in the UCL?
I'll try to find the link, but I was reading some Tweets this morning, indicating that Villareal is considering sacking him. Thus, this would be quite the lifeline.
I get that the new regime in Newcastle want to make a splash signing as a signal of intent, but it would be wiser to use that money and get players than can grow with the club's ambitions. Certainly quality will be needed to get them out of the bottom four, but they need someone that can work with the squad they have now to start scrapping points here and there until January. Would Howe be the answer in terms of tactically keeping the club afloat until January?
No kidding. Looking at the La Liga table Villareal are 13th, 3 points off the relegation zone. Considering they're in the Champions League I'm a bit surprised they're that low but guessing they have a pretty small squad and it's difficult to deal with two competitions within days of each other.
I wonder if Emery would finally get his boy Wilfred Zaha? Who he wanted an arsenal but they bought him Pepe instead. What’s Zaha’s contract situation?
Stupid signing for spurs, Kane wants out and conte likes old Players in a rigid system I can see this lasting till the end of the season at the latest levy should be throwing the kitchen sink at graham potter Emery is not the one for Newcastle. They need an experienced coach who can get them out of the shot. They are getting relegated
Unai has done well if you consider his squad. Lots of has beens. He's good with doing more with less hence his appointment. I'm sure he can get a few signings and avoid relegation. Steve Bruce really was a man out of his time. Anyone after him is an improvement. Unai also must be eyeing a huge payoff should it all not work and his CV is good enough for getting a job in the top 6 of La Liga.
There's something we don't know. I think Levy will pull money out of nowhere for Conte. Otherwise why would he sign. It's like how he backed Mou but never did with Poch.
i was wondering why emery would even consider this when they just took a europa and is doing european when the sky people discussing this were talking about how they were struggling this season. made more sense then.
i mean, he got along with guendouzi so he ought to be okay with inflated egos. speaking of whom, maybe new destination for guendouzi?! i remember andrew mangan chuckling about it a bit on arseblog's podcast but he asked for a left-sided right-footer in zaha and got a right-sided left-footer in pepe and asked for nzonzi, a big bruiser, and got torreira, who is . . . torreira.
Unai Emery:"Villarreal is my home and I am 100% committed to it. Honestly, I am thankful for the interest of a great club, but I am even more thankful to be here and that's why I told [Villarreal president] Fernando Roig my decision to keep playing a part in this project." pic.twitter.com/rsllf2fpZF— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) November 3, 2021
