Posted this on FB, so figured I'd do it here as well since I've seen hints here about the Shield too.

Going to go on a little Revs related rant for a minute. Been a while since I had a chance to do this.

I've seen our fans talk about how the Shield means nothing. I think we forget who we root for. This team has one legit piece of hardware in the Trophy Case (no, I don't count the SuperLiga even though that was fun). Since when can we be picky? Along with Colorado, we're the only original two MLS teams that haven't won the Shield.

I get that we all want the Star on our kit next year. But, while history may not be in our favor, it's not like the double can't be done. We blew off many (MANY) years of the USOC to try and focus on making the playoffs. I'd rather have had the hardware in those years, than eventually miss the playoffs (or lose early).

So let's hope to gain the Shield this weekend. Then we move on to focus on our club breaking the MLS points record. Then we move on to each one-game playoff round, and hope to lift even more hardware in December.

If all of the above happen, the Shield will be part of the reason that we'll be in the discussion for best MLS team ever.

I'm not one of those people. I want the Shield. I want the points record too. I also want the cup! Lastly, I want to win the cup in Foxy-borough. Winning the shield will help to ensure this!!

This team, this coaching staff, this business operation have, after a so very long and patient time for supporting fans, made this SS possible! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Now, after 5 failed trips to the MLS Cup, may you carry your magic to and through a 6th trip to the MLS Cup!

    Arena and Bunbury should win.
    Gil has a great shout.
Probably give goalie of the year to a goalie from a worse team.
Would love to see Jones win, but I doubt it.
    Traustason doesn't deserve it.
    Tajon wins.
    GIl wins comeback player.

There is an interesting name on the MVP list. Some guy named Diego...

Tejon might have a chance if it wasn't for Pepi

I would be shocked in Gil didn't win MVP. He's been the frontrunner most of the season, and hasn't done anything to slip.

Keeper of the Year: Someone, I think it was Matt Doyle, put it this way. Turner should have won last year, but it went to Blake. Blake had the better season this year, but it will go to Turner.

CotY: Breaking the pts record should wrap it up for Bruce.

Six of his shield winning first 11 were here, and a couple of his key subs . . . so the cupboard wasn't totally bare. But the team (on field) and the organization were foundering and his shitshow comment is justified. And funny. and brutally honest. I feel fortunate that the only professional team I follow these days is being led by this guy . . . he is clearly the best current MLS coach and the best American soccer coach ever. Just glad I don't have to interview him -- long ago I was a journalist and I did have to do post-game interviews with coaches, and I would not have enjoyed interview Arena. As a consumer, though, I always can't wait to hear his in-game and post-game comments.

If I remember right, Friedel had another big DP signing in the works when the team fell apart under him. Seeing how Gil turned out, I wonder who the other game-changer was?

That much hyped second DP addition fell through. According to reports out of Belgium and confirmed by sources within MLS, the Revs agreed to a transfer with Belgium’s Standard Liege for Congolese winger Paul-José M’Poku. Between the transfer fee and salary, it was a deal worth nearly $14 million. But M’Poku refused the move, despite Friedel’s regular assurances that the player was all but in the fold.

Mpoku has fallen back to earth. When Brad was looking for him he was coming off a 7 goal 5 assist season that got Liege qualified for the Europa League. He followed that up with a much less productive season, ended up having to sign in the uae, and is now getting roosting minutes in turkey for a mid table team.

    Probably dodged a bullet there

Rumors of a Buksa broken foot starting to bubble up in past hour on Twitter

Microsoft's translation of original tweet in Polish, shown in Twitter (Tweetdeck):
"Adam Buksa due to a fracture of the third metatarsal bone will not take part in the November training camp of the national team. The player is waiting for a few weeks break in training. At the moment, the staff of the team does not provide for additional call-ups in place of the injured Buksa."

I hate doing one of those "in my day" posts, but I'm going to do it. Based on what it sounds like Buksa is dealing with, I suffered a similar injury in my junior year of college during the soccer season. This was 20+ years ago, so I can't remember exactly how long I was out, but it was in the neighborhood of 4 weeks. 11/30 is exactly 4 weeks from today. I doubt he'll be 90 minute fit for the first round, but I would also not be at all surprised if he is indeed fit enough to play.

So much for a last minute sprint at the Golden Boot, though.

I'm wondering when it happened: during the Colorado game or in training. Or, maybe its a more chronic, stress-type injury that he finally got looked at?

It's going to be a tough one to keep up conditioning with. Presumably he'll be able to do some work on the bike, but running is probably totally out for a couple of weeks.

So, looks like our 1st playoff matchup will be the winner of NYC hosting Atlanta.

I think that's a pretty good draw for us. NYC will be boosted by their postage stamp field and likely get by Atlanta and then have to perform on a real field when they meet us.
