Ends 0-1 to Hertha. Hard to tell exactly what went wrong. My guess is that Hertha were well prepared and BMG needed to change up earlier. BMG kicked the ball hard but were too slow in execution. I think Hertha knew they could stop BMG from racing past the edges and clogged up the middle while specially marking Scally to stop the outside run and force the ball inside. Hertha's 2 dmids (4231) were their high scorers on WS apart from the goal scorer. Could BMG have switched to a 433 scheme mid game to good effect ? I think so because both Embolo and Hoffman could play wingers in that scheme, Stindl is cf and Zakaria the 10. They had possession anyway so they didn't need the 3rd cb so much. Difficult question of the day: Is Scally better on the left or right? I like him better on the left but hard to say why since he is pretty good on both sides.
Hertha was lucky to get the score. In fact, up to that point, it was their only shot on goal for them.
Scally starting on right in Pokal v. Bayern !!. BMG strike early (1' mark) and are up 1-0. scally actually with a slight pressure there as well. The guy has a way of playing......
What an accurate square pass by Scally to the top of the box, laid off to the trailer, back to the late runner wide on the other side, goal. BMG upr 2-0 on Bayern. Should be 3 or 4 nothing, truth be told.
Scally with the pre-hockey assist pass as BMG get # 2. Crazy amount of pressure and chances from BMG.
Gladbach is playing lights out! This is the style of play our NT should be playing. And Scally is in the thick of it.
Said umpteen times before, but I truly cannot believe this kid is 18. He shows a level of maturity that I've rarely seen at his experience level. Never played a single minute in the BL prior to this season, which is what three months old? Criminy. Did anyone see this coming?
Scally not clearing caused for sommers to make the block.Gladbach's defense is bending but not breaking.
I'd love to see Pepi join BMG as long as they would lay out how they would bring him along in terms of p.t.
I've been raving about him since his youth days as he's always had the athletic and technical qualities of a high-end prospect. If not for some bad luck at NYCFC with Tinnerholm and their lack of a real second team, I think he would have broken out even earlier. The outside back injuries at BMG was a lucky break for his development, and good for him for making the most of the opportunity.
While I can't imagine that a German club would ever do this, it almost looks like Bayern decided that they didn't want the additional fixtures that the Pokal means later in the season. You don't go from what they did over the weekend and last week to what we're seeing right now. I heard Lewa's name just a minute ago and was surprised he was even on the field as I hadn't heard it at all. BMG is playing well, but that backline was just gawdawful. Upemecano was pitiful until he was hauled off for Sule, and he promptly gave up Embolo's 5th.
Quote from the announcer right now, "the BMG sporting director says that Scally has been their best player of the season." Let that ring in your ears for a minute.
Starting lineup had Neuer, Pavard, Hernandez, Upamecano, Davies, Kimmich, Goretzka, Sane, Mueller, Gnabry, and Lewandowski in it. That's not mailing it in. They are just getting their butts kicked despite playing a good side.
