More clubs need to mix it up and get away from the monochrome look. DCU doesn't have a monochrome kit this year for home or away.
I don't think the Whitecaps do either. I've almost always seen them play in their white shirts, blue shorts combo. Their alternate is blue shirt, light blue shorts.
So, since then, I've noticed that at least two teams are in white tops/green shorts: Portland (not surprising) and Colorado (only surprising if you don't know their original colors). So Austin needs something else. But with this many teams in the league, it starts to get challenging to find a color combo that defines the team. Maybe just having green socks with the green shorts? I've often thought that one of the most distinctive colors associated with the Austin area and the Hill Country is the spring wildflowers -- bluebonnets and blanket flowers in particular. Might be too much infringing on Houston's territory to have an orange top, blue shorts. Maybe if the top was more toward the yellow end? And, separately, does no-one make a basic simple image with all teams' kits? All google gave me was season-start overviews where the images only had the jerseys and in most cases were separate images for each team.
This is where having a recognizable shirt pattern and sticking with it would be helpful. But mls teams are bad about sabotaging their own identity by not sticking with a pattern. I'm looking at you FC Dallas (hoops), Montreal Impact (stripes), Atlanta (stripes), Chicago Fire (single wide hoop). Others could claim halved, diagonally halved, quartered, the list goes on
OMG yes! I LOVED the hoops! As far as I know, there was only one other team in the world that had red hoops (Bayern Munich, I think), and it was only for a short while. Seriously, FCD, either stick with the red and black (they were red and black before DCU were, DCU called themselves red and black, but were red and white at the start ) or the hoops, but please, please pick one! As much as I hate the LAG, their home kits are excellent this year.
Let’s not forget Philly. They had a really distinct pattern before removing the center bar a few years back. I don’t mind teams switching it up and getting away from their signature designs for a cycle or two (almost have to with new primary jerseys every other year), but it sucks when they just abandon them altogether.
DC United wore Black shirts and red shorts in 96 for quite a few games. So they started off the Red and Black. It was nice to return to it in 2020. Hopefully Adidas doesn't ******** it up when they release our new primary kit for next year
