He’s still not the reason he didn’t end up with points. There were more than a few catastrophic mistakes by other Barça players with much more experience.

I'm not laying the blame for the loss on Dest. On the other hand, if he had scored the dynamic of the game would probably have changed, and that's the significance of the miss. But you're right, Dest had no fault in the goals that RM scored.

also it seems to me like Barca tilts the field strongly left when attacking and forgets there's even a right side at all. At this point they're just too predictable.

I'm obviously biased but they could become a lot more dangerous if they switched the point of attack more often and had someone to play 1-2's with Dest. Even when they do get it to the right side, the only option is to either take on the defender 1v1 or cycle back through the midfield. Although Dest didn't help himself by not being aggressive when he did get the ball. I wonder if his miss affected his overall play. C'mon Sergino, be a goldfish!

Or from a non-Dest PoV, they could switch some players to the right on occasion just to give a different look. But right now, they're just waaaay too predictable.

"It's not the result we wanted. The team did well at the start. We had the most clear chances to go ahead, specially the one by Dest. Once they score, because of their defensive game and speed on the wings [for counters], it gets complicated." --Koeman, Barcelona coach.

"We lacked clarity. They had three chances and scored two. The missed chance by Dest was key for what happened in the game. I'm left with a bad taste after this result." --Ramon Planes, Barcelona technical director.

Allow me. In a lesser league like MLS no explanation is required.

a close range miss is a miss anywhere. Im not sure what this has to do with MLS. Crazy.

MLS goals are a dime a dozen. Fans aren’t really there for the goals. The opponent will provide an OG out of MLS comradeship. There is no pro/rel so does it really matter?
    Just some ideas.

Yeah, just crazy. Even when a Euro misses, it has to be tied into how lowly MLS is. The obsession here with tying MLS to every negative action or outcome is simply absurd.

Dest starting again, vs. Rayo Vallecano, maybe again as RW in a 4-3-3 but we'll see.

Dest gets out of a 1 v 2 in the offensive corner to get off a cross, but can't find the right guy in the box. Not sure this is a 4-3-3, as Dest isn't as advanced as he would be if it was.

Dest and Roberto have combined a couple of times to earn corners. Dest's role seems almost like a RM in a 4-4-2.

Dest gets service inside the box, attempts to cut back onto his left for final pass/shot, but knocked out for a corner.

Really nice goal from Falcao to put Rayo Vallecano up 1-0. Maybe five seconds between Busquets midfield turnover to Falcao spin move in the box and shot banked off the far post and in.

AGAIN!?!?! Dest beats his man to the ball in the six, but deflects it over the top under pressure. Ugh.

Timo Dest needs to learn how to tap the ball in.

Starting to look like a mid-half switch for Dest to line up at RB now.

I noticed he positioned himself further back after the miss. But now he is back up. And was open in the box but ignored by Roberto.

Try, try again. This is great shooting practice - he'll be more accurate when it counts!

Dest gets a pass in space, draws the defense inside the box setting up a layoff to Aguero's overlapping run, Aguero's blast misses the upper near corner.

Jordi Alba hurt again, and Dest may have to go to left back.

Depay earns PK. Depay has PK saved.
