There are plenty of foreign players English fans love. I think people are mostly annoyed at how he’s never available and the influx of random Americans to their discussion boards who think he’s the best player in the world . Also he doesnt really have much of a personality. Zero charisma lol. So he doesn’t really engage fans in that way either.

I lurk on their message boards and American posters are as likely to speak poorly of Pulisic as they are to praise him. And I would not call it much of an influx. Certainly not much more than the "influx" of Chelsea fans who come to this forum and Anglosplain things to us. I will grant you that he is pretty much devoid of a personality, at least when he deals with the media. But there is no point in him trying to win over a fanbase that never embraced a player like Willian.

He gets perfect ratings when he gets a single shot on target in a game so I would have thought he would have broken the ratings system of pretty much every English newspaper today.

Willian should have been a god to them. I agree that American posters can signal their supposed sophisticated or objectivity by dumping in Pulisic.

Mount doesn't need a hat trick to be a very effective player -- before today he was measuring well into the 90th+ percentile in a number of metrics among mids/attacking mids in Europe. This thread's suggestions that he gets praise or minutes mostly because of his Englishness remains untethered to reality.

I mean... what the ******** does Tuchel care about English internationals?

The reaction to these things will depend upon the specific points and responses being made. Considering the number of silly things said in YA threads about YAs, at a minimum some people need some things explained to them, that seems to be self-evident.

That said I'm sure some Chelsea fans could stand to have some things explained to them too...

What does this mean? You don't think Chelsea fans appreciated Willian for what he did and what he was?
What does CP have to do with Willian? 2 very different kinds of players.

I mean, it happens all the time.

Chelsea don't need to worry about getting value for him, they simply don't have to care. He's worth more to them as a backup than this offer -- 30M pounds & getting his wages off the books -- would be worth.

And he doesn't strike me as the type to look for the exit door from the European champions / current prem contenders due to frustration stemming from his inability to stay healthy and play more often.

Didn’t Chelsea do something similar to Michael Ballack?

Ballack missed many games due to his busted ankle and surgery to fix it, but when he was fit he played. I don't think he was ever frozen out of the team when he was fit.

World Cup 2022 starts on November 2022..So my guess is everyone would want CP to play regularly somewhere to stay fit for that tournament.

I seriously doubt he'll stay anywhere just to collect a bigger wage..If it comes to it, he'll find a new place for a fresh start with good wage.

You think Pulisic would be ok just sitting on the bench and/or receiving PT for most of a season just because he's on a CL team? That's as far as his ambitions/pride will go?

Why is everyone writing a healthy CP out of the Chelsea line-up?

And if CP isn't healthy, how's he helping us in the WC?

CP isn't playing because he's hurt. When he's been healthy, he's gotten plenty of minutes to keep him sharp for national team duty.

When he's healthy, and benched for long stretches, then perhaps this conversation make sense.

It's the same at soccer bars, IME. Chelsea fans want to like him but he's hurt so damn much. It's infuriating at this point given the fee they paid for Pulisic.

When he's been available, he's played. So I expect he will work his way into the rotation and end up getting minutes this season when he eventually does regain some fitness.

And if he's still battling injuries and/or not playing come late May... no one is going to come in and take on his wages, anyway. So the strike zone for him to transfer seems very small to me, just doesn't seem likely considering all the variables. Summer 2023 it gets a lot bigger, if for whatever reason he's not playing consistently.

No one is writing off his career at Chelsea just yet but you would agree that a team like Chelsea can not depend on his availibity even as a back up since he's so injury prone...

and this is Chelsea..They will always spend big to bring in big tickets players...

Guys like Giroud and Tommy Abraham were suddently frozen out because Chelsea brought in big tickets players in..That could easily happen next summer to CP "unless" he play like he did during project restart.

CP had his moment last year when he played but I wouldnt say he was great..He didn't start the CL final because he was out of form by than.

Let's see how he does when he's finally fit..hope for the best.

At this point the Pulisic forums on Chelsea boards are used to debate the origin of the word "soccer," the medical intricacies of diverse leg lesions, and whether Yanks have souls.

Association Football -> assoc -> soccer
Sprain -> complex fracture which will keep any player out for months.
    Yanks -> no souls.

    There… debate over!

Pulisic has already played an instrumental role in getting Chelsea into the Champions League twice, and in winning the Champions League. If any Chelsea fans (regardless of nationality) think poorly of him as a player, it's because they're idiots.

I'd agree that there's not much point in trying to understand or cater to the rationalizations for that idiocy, and I assume that any competent club management would feel the same way.

I mean, when I read these posts discussing how American players are being viewed by their club's fans on social media, I sometimes feel like Gene Wilder here:

Incorrect. CP was in fine form heading into that CL final, as he had scored a goal and an assist vs Real Madrid in the previous fixture. Tuchel benched him for the final because he said it was a tactical move, as he liked Havertz height to help with set pieces over Pulisic (at least that what he said the reasoning was).
CP subbed in and played well in the final; just wish he had put away his goal opportunity that he helped set up
