I also know the area. Don't forget "Hispanic" is a language-based ethnonym and not a racial-based one. Also, many have no accent at all (children of immigrants or immigrated as children) and the only way you'd know they are "Hispanic" is if they share their last name with you. And often not even then.

Back in the late 80 and early 90s folks that wanted to live in So. OC but wouldn't afford the higher property price would look to Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills.
In 2000 when we wanted to move to YL the price for a 3 bedroom 2 bath, was about 600K. We ended up moving to Chino Hills just 15 miles east to a bigger place and for only 320k

Language or racial doesn't really make his "that area is too affluent for hispanics to live there" better.

Yes, the subtext was offensive. But it may not have been intended.

It doesn’t make sense to me Hoppe to not even make the bench. Injury? What’s going on?

Don’t get it either. He’s looked decent to good when’s he played.
Now we must hope for a Valencia 4-0 win and an inept Mallorca offense.

What made you think he was terrible, specifically? I didn’t see the game, tooo early in the AM for me

interesting cause on Twitter I found a few local Mallorca reporters who said he made the travel squad but was one of two who were not selected to dress for match day

Not to go off topic but he himself wasn’t necessarily terrible. He didn’t see the ball. Norwich was terrible. But he didn’t do anything when to help his cause

I don't have any direct evidence for this comment, but....

Sure seems like the Hoppe transfer was not done with direction of coach. Seems
like it was very top down driven and the coach went along with it....and was kind of blase' about it.

The other possibility (I suppose) is that the coach sees some technical deficiencies in Hoppe's game.....but in that case, he certainly is not going to get better sitting on the bench.

Other than these 2 comments- I can't understand why he is not getting more minutes. I'd think the coach would want to (at a minimum) get him some minutes for integration.....if there was some sort of strategic plan to develop him.

My fear is that there....was....(and maybe is) no plan. That he was added to the roster (top-down decision) and the coach feels no real need to develop at this time.

He looked good enough against RM to me. Had some good scenes. But I do not know what Mallorca's coach is looking for (in order for Hoppe to get more minutes).

I'm not claiming that he should be an automatic starter....just I expected more cameo's at the end of games...and the fact this seems to be drying up at the moment....well....not good news short term

He seems to be a player that gives his all in training (from all reports)- so I really don't understand (save the 2 suggestions I mentioned).

Mallorca has a lot of games coming up, so maybe that will help.

Anyone know if they are still in the Spanish Cup? That might get him some starts as well.

Looks like they played with one forward today, and Fer Niño, the former starter, was on the bench. Apparently you don’t need 2 number 9s on the bench.

So basically Matthew's shot was the Real Madrid game and, since he only got an assist, he flunked it.

To pass his test he had to score a couple on Real. Plus the assist, of course.

I just hope he has a good relationship with the coach and is learning in training. This may be a move that takes >1 year to pay off.

Actually he did. He had a chance to look like the only Norwich player who had a f*&king clue. One that he didn't quite take, but only because Tim Krul looked decent as well.

Sarge had a few decent moments early in the first half, before the rest of the team threw in the towel completely. Something tells me he won't be at Norwich this time next year.

Not good to be #3 number 9 in a system that allows for only 1 #9.

Why would they spend so much money (for Mallorca) on a #3 number 9?

    Doesn't make sense.

Makes me think that coach was not really engaged fully in the decision.

That kind of money could have been used for a more pressing need.
If you are Mallorca, you won't do well financially as a club spending that kind of money on a 3rd #9.
That's being a bad steward of your funding.
