He should hold off on the contract to get a big move next summer

Word is that Alvarez will extend his contract to 2025. Dutch contracts usually do not contain release clauses. Most of us thought he had a wonderful match yesterday. I thought the early YC was a sketch call by the Spanish official but Alvarez did not miss a beat, playing strong the rest of the match. He had a couple of really strong interventions.

Ajax need three points to assure their place in the knock out round. This team is capable of doing something special this season.

I think he should get the new contract. That way if a team wants to buy him they will have to splash the cash for him and pay him a good salary. With the money they invest in him they will have to give him plenty of opportunities.

In the meantime, there's no rush. Ajax is a great team and he's playing the best football of his career.

Whether if he extends his contract or not, I think that the most important thing is that he gets a real agent, like chucky and Raúl did some time ago.
If what transfermarkt says is true he is represented by promofut and Edson is their most important client, they also have Vela and Cordova and we all know what they’ve done for them so far, brought vela to mls at what? 27, 28? And tied Cordova to a long ass contract with las wilas

Do you think Ajax is getting more popular in the US?

I surprisingly see an Ajax shirt each month approximately, especially with NYC kids whom I doubt are Dutch. A PSV shirt is extremely rare (I saw 2 in 5 years) and the only other shirt I saw was probably from some biking Dutch guy with a Groningen shirt.

Ajax got cooler looking jerseys, some people just buy them cause they like how it looks.

Mistake. Should've waited for an EPL team to come calling.

    Ni modo.

He doesn’t need to leave Ajax to be great, especially if this team makes a deep run in the UCL this season.

Disagree, if that was true no Dutch players would leave Ajax. Ajax is a stepping stone for those that want to be the greatest. Is it bad that he signed a new contract? It can be, but just a few years ago Juventus and Barca paid 75 million Euros for De Ligt and De Jong, respectively. If Ajax can make a quarterfinal or semifinal run in the Champions League teams will be willing to pay Edsons buyout clause.

But the Edson's in the world too?

Edson will not be the greatest. Ajax is level Dortmund. Sure, you can leave for the Bayern's in the world, or for a new challenge, but at this moment I don't see why you have to leave to develop further. And a move is not always good for your development.

I think Vd. Beek regrets his move, Tadic rejected Italian top teams and Klaassen/Blind returned.

  15. De Ligt and de Jong yet have to experience with those socalled superclubs what they achieved with Ajax. Only corrupt officials bought by olicharges with generous contributions on offshore banks with non identity accounts with dubious decisions kept Ajax from the Final and the year later from getting into the next phase.
You can bet on Newcastle United getting strange beneficial decisions the coming years.

This was going to be my point. Super clubs are not willing to polish players up. They expect results. Edson can really polish up and make the jump later from Ajax. He’s the best mid in concacaf, he can become a top mid in the world by staying a little longer at Ajax.

Another great game by Edson. They destroyed PSV.

    :'(

    True.

    Ajax - PSV 5-0
    Lisbon - Ajax 1-5
    Ajax - Dortmund 4-0

    In the league
    Scored: 3.7 goals/game
    Conceded: 0.2 goals/game

    In the CL
    Scored: 3.6 goals/game
    Conceded: 0.33 goals/game.

Ajax winning the CL? Who knows. Rafael Marquez needs a successor.

Except Mexican clubs have actually been known to coerce or strong-arm players into signing extensions.

Also, Mexican clubs don't play in UCL.

It happens everywhere. But because it happens in other places doesn't excuse LigaMX or FMF. I think we can agree that corruption exists everywhere but other FAs do a better job of letting it disturb their NT than Mexico does. Keep on giving LigaMX/FMF a free pass tho.
