I admit Brad and Charlie can be tough to listen to most games. We know it, Bruce knows it, and they probably know it at least about each other. While we're playing lofty goals, and bringing in players from the organization, I'd like to see them try for Twellman in this area. Eventually, I'd like to see Bruce transition from HC to SD/GM, and allow Shalrie, along with ABMOD take over the day to day. Put MLS Cup in our trophy case this year, and even more opportunities to advance this cub arise.
I expect something like this to happen, before too long. At his age and history, I'm not expecting Arena to coach here for very long. What I am hoping for is that he'll leave this top-level organization, on the playing side at least, in place when he's done.
The top 5, and 9 of the top 10, in the MLS Golden Boot list all scored at least once last night. 1. Kamara 2. Ruidiaz 3. Salloi 4. Bou 5. Buksa 7. Mukhtar 8. Pepi 9. Chicharito 10. Kreilach Only one who didn't was 6. Castellanos.
I can't speak for the rest since I don't watch enough games, but man if Buksa wasn't such close friends with the post or crossbar ... he'd be up over 20 goals.
Does anybody wonder if Kelyn Rowe and Diego Fagundez might have had a different trajectory if they had been coached by Arena?
Yeah, to be fair, it looks like Bruce has been imploring him to use his right foot. He is more lately but now he needs to develop more power behind it. I remember when he got here he did everything to get the ball switched to his left. Often in doing that the opportunity went begging. Maybe that's why we got him as a bargain from Europe. Maybe that was his flaw hindering his career there.
Yeah, no doubt. But, I think they are both undersized for their positions, so that would have always been a challenge. But, Diego seemed to have lost what made him special during those years here under previous coaches - and I guess you could say that about Rowe as well.
Diego seems to be doing pretty well in Austin (considering how bad they are). He leads the team with 6 goals (and has added 2 assists).
I think Freidel was Rowes downfall. He was beginning to break into the MNT a bit in the Heaps era, IIRC…
Also, drafted Buchanan, Bye and Jones. Gave Turner a real shot. He just couldn't figure out how to get the team to work for him.
Don't think I agree here - Rowe was already an established veteran. I think he needed (and Friedel) wanted him to establish more physicality - and perform more consistently. I just don't think Rowe was able to do either enough. I don't think he was ever more than a marginal USNT prospect.
If Adam goes to Europe, do you consider giving the DP tag to Turner to keep him, or are we looking at a serious overhaul next year?
When does Turner's current contract expire? My impression is that it's ambition, not money, that would motivate Turner to go to Europe. My personal opinion is that keeping him here through the end of next year is the best move for both him and the Revs, since he'll get more playing time here than abroad ahead of the World Cup, then the Revs can sell at the top of his market.
I think it's through 2022. He signed a contract in 2019, and then extended his contract for another year earlier this calendar year.
Turner signed a "multi-year deal" in Aug 2019: https://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/revolution-re-sign-matt-turner-multi-year-contract He then signed an extension last January that added a year: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/why-matt-turner-signed-contract-extension-new-england-revolution So if the "multi-year" deal was only 2 years, that would be 2020-21, and the added year would be 2022. Could be longer. I agree with @Argyle that he would best served by staying with the Revs until after the World Cup in Qatar, unless he moves somewhere he is guaranteed to start right away.
I've been getting promos from MLS Store for "Jersey Week," promising great deals on jerseys. I go to the Revs' section of the MLS Store, and the top banner is for "Jersey Week," promising great deals on Revs' jerseys. I click on it. There are a grand total of five jerseys for sale, all youth sizes, all this year's away whites. Someone's promotions department either wasn't prepared for "Jersey Week" or hasn't been able to keep up with demand.
It was a brisk December morning.... Matt Turner was on stage singing lead vocals for an angel band, and I'm in the front row of the duckboat procession and I'm HAMMERED drunk
