I think you are referring to his miss in the 26rh min (approach 0:40 of video below).

It doesn't look like you remember correctly. Arriola started the last three games of the GC and went 86 mins vs Mexico. Your memory on these things isn't that good today. I am still waiting for you to support the negative things you said about Weah.

    So Cal
Yes, I do remember. I don't remember how many but I believe it was 2 or 3. You specifically asked about Mexico.

Actually, one of the main reasons that I prefer Hoppe to Arriola is that I believe Hoppe is a good finisher (or at least better than Arriola).

Arriola is inconsistent as a finisher. If Arriola was a good finisher, I doubt there would be many....if any that fail to see his value. Of course pigs can't fly, so you get the good with the bad (or vice versa) and you have to decide how much each balances out the other and for which situations etc.

Perhaps not. I just checked and you are right.

maybe. but thats just you saying that.

subbing pepi in the 60th minute of the opener suggested his starting again in panama but thats not what happened.

im glad you found your line and all, ive seen you throw it out half a dozen times, but its based on nothing while helpfully deflecting from berhalters decisions.

This is where I really lay fault on Berhalter for that game. In a game in which we were struggling to find offense, and eventually down a goal, we had 3 subs left yet did not introduce to the game the player whom was likely the best passer of the ball through midfield on our roster? No one can argue that was done to save Busio for the Costa Rica game, because he did not start that game either. I did not understand it then, and I do not understand it now.

    Joe Scally WS: 6.89
Tim Tillman WS: 6.97 (fewer games)

Tillman might just be having a few good games and will regress to the mean. If not, he could charge into the picture.

Arriola leads the team in minutes this cycle, playing home games against a lot of minnows. Konrad has 2 halves in away games in Europe and Central America. It's hard to compare.

thats weird, i checked the "but really, who scored?" rankings and they said scally has while attacking mid tillman has not.

not sure what advanced metrics they use though...

    here
I think that it's still worth calling up guys like Pefok, Dike, Hoppe, they're all young. They look (to me) like they'll be good.

(I'm a Gioacchini supporter, too. Just didn't want a bunch of "Gioa sucks!" replies muddling the thread.)

By the way .... so this is the WAP thread?

I too think Weah has more great things ahead of him, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of optimism around him among fans.

In A team matches (NL & WCQ), Arriola has played a total of 135 minutes. KDLF 72.

I wouldn't say Pulisic should automatically start over Aaronson, or vice versa. But right now it seems like the main thing Pulisic has over Aaronson is club prestige and that will probably change in the next year. If one guy is starting at AC Milan in February and Pulisic is on the bench at Chelsea, the perception will change.

I think Bueno may have been saved for CR in case McKennie couldn't go. It wasn't really known until game day that he was definite!y fit. I think Berhalter likes Busio plenty. All speculation on my part but I could see why you might do that.

    Weah v. Arriola -

Long ago I said that I could see Weah leading the line for USA in Qatar. I still can see it, altho with a pressing shift. Weah gets lost on the wing. He should be a 9 who moves wide, not a winger who moves centrally. I have nothing against playing him on the wing early in his career but for the USMNT it is time to move him into the "9" slot.

    ----------weah
    ---pepi--------sarge
    scally---aaron--dest
    ----adams + 1

No pulisic, no Reyna, no problem. Why ask them to get stuck in when you can bring them on in the 2nd half with the Covid era substitution regime in place. With that many subs, one can sub in the FH and be fine, as in 'this press ain't workin', pull sarge, bring puli...etc.
