The European team, specially Madrid in the last 10 years, get really bamboozled by the Brazilian allure. But if you look at Madrid today, they are not leaning towards speaking Portuguese, they are va parler Français. There is a rumor that Pogba might be going there in the summer, and they are clearly trying to get Mbappe. Also, the very aggressive pro-Benzema push for the balon d'Or was started in Madrid - maybe an effort to make Madrid more French to attract MBappe, but also to try to make sure Messi doesn't win his 7th balon. As for our boy Julian Alvarez, please please PLEASE stay in Argentina until after the WC. IF he goes to a European club that won't give him enough playing time. . . . you know what could happen. . . what's Adolfo Gaich up to these days?
Looks like they are starting to do that with his contract also ending in Dec. 2022 https://www.tycsports.com/river-pla...la-renovacion-de-julian-alvarez-id382835.html
Its because these rankings go like 4 years back, so the crappy 2018 world cup is still factoring. According to ELO rankings, that are much more accurate, we are TOP 3 https://www.eloratings.net/
Yeah, these look much better. Not just because of where we’re at, but take Ecuador for example. According to Fifa they’re 52 (& going down a few spots on the next ranking), yet ELO has them at 27. Speaking of Ecuador, I believe they have a friendly against aforementioned Mexico next week. It will be interesting watching a Conmebol side in a friendly after nearly 2 years. It’s been 2 years to this day since we tied Germany 2-2. Since then we’ve played 21 straight matches vs Conmebol sides. Really looking forward to this summer’s match vs Italy!
Yeah, I was puzzled by this match between Ecuador and Mexico. Its not an official FIFA date, so not sure what players will participate. Also, the game is not going to be played in Mexico or Ecuador, it will be played in Charlotte, NC. .. ???
I'm even more puzzled with the Jan.-Feb. WCQ matches vs Chile and vs Colombia. They are not FIFA official dates from what I can tell. If they are not FIFA official dates, then I really doubt clubs will let players go for those matches.
January-Feb 2022 has official FIFA match dates: https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/88176dce3738a428/original/cd3qpcttmbbjowbso2tz-pdf.pdf I don’t think CONMEBOL would have been able to schedule WCQ dates outside of a FIFA window to begin with. Typically there aren’t Jan/Feb windows, but I’m assuming it was a forced modification due to the whole calendar getting messed up by the pandemic.
Mexico plays more often in USA than at home I think, especially in non qualifying years. They are a huge cash cow among the immigrants here. It's a pain in the ass because USA rarely gets home field advantage against them as a result (exceptions being games in places like Columbus OH).
RDP is such a talent. Watching v Liverpool, and man, what a baller. what When I watched at Udi, he was a step above everybody. It always amazed me that major clubs did not go after him until they did. That guy not only plays at a high level at club level but also with us. I think some of wanted more out of him about a year ago or so(At national level) but since the CA, he’s been exceeded all of our expectations.
Wow this psg team is so horrible. I am starting to think barca was better at least they passed the ball back to Messi. What a disgrace what the f is pochetino doing playing Messi as a defensive mid? lol. Honestly, the players just dont have the intelligence they are used to just running in Ligue 1 absolutely zero vision or tempo
Guys, Pochetino will be available to coach in Scaloni's absence. Maybe he can be Aimar's right man hand and learn something
Lisandro Martinez has been starting nearly every game for Ajax this year as LCB. Ajax are beating Dortmund 4-0 right now with Lisandro out there. Tagliafico has barely been playing this year for them. Sometimes a substitute.
Only if PSG had the talent Argentina had. If they were smart, they’d go and buy everybody on the national team and let them dominate the world.
I empathize with Poch a bit. He only joined at the start of this year I believe, then most of his squad were away at international tournaments in the summer and after that he has to try and fit in both extremely attacking fullbacks (Hakimi & Mendes) and Messi. Sooner or later he'll have to think of how to integrate Ramos, Donarruma and get more out of Wijnaldum while having the least defensively contributing forward line out there right now lol. He really has his work cut out though he showed some decent nous against Leipzig by bringing on Danilo to play as a sweeper and allowing Hakimi and Mendes to defend higher and wider. When Ramos is back I think they'll have to consider a back 3 and slowly, led by Verratti, their team realizes that the more you pass the ball to Messi, the more he stays engaged and the higher your chances of winning and playing beautiful football.
He's been GOAT for years, and PSG still shit team despite the win . People might blame Poch, but I suspect PSG players has too much ego . In fact Messi might be the only one with little ego in that team. He let Mbappe wasted what could have been his hattrick goal.
Their midfield is completely broken with F-tier trash players like Gueye and Herrera who cannot control the tempo for a second of their lives. Poch wants compact runner types with Messi as some winger who tracks back lmao this ain't it for PSG.
Thats what happened when you spent years at "high tempo" league. You'd prefers fast runners over skillful and intelligent players .
That is correct. Technique will mostly win out over speed. Ball will always move faster than any player. That is why EPL is so boring to me.
