Yeah, I was thinking a little earlier where would he fit into a Southgate system? He wouldn’t get ahead of Rice or Phillips as a defensive midfielder, maybe he will edge ahead of Henderson now he’s in his latter years. Who would he jump ahead of as an number 8 if he was to be played in that role? I don’t think he has the same skill set as Foden, Mount or even Lingard.

Have to say though that as well as he’s done for Palace, I’m still not as convinced as others that he will be a success at International level just yet. I’m just not sure about him at the moment.

Gallagher won't get into the starting 11 just yet but more depth is always good. With Henderson aging, there's easily a place for a new central midfielder in the squad.
Speaking of Rice. I was watching him against Everton and thoroughly reminded myself why I rate him so highly. Such a disciplined, intelligent player in central midfield. So many times Everton were on a dangerous counter and Rice made a key interception.

Gallagher does likes a tackle though so I’m thinking he could easily turn his hand to the defensive role - he’s only 21 and still developing

Grealish starting again as a false nine with Foden on the left.

I'm not so sure. Phillips seems to be ahead of Henderson now, and isn't that the most likely spot for Bellingham to compete for too?

    Don't forget Bellingham.

He was good last season as well, in a poor WBA side. There's no certainty he'll be a success, but he's performing at a level that deserves consideration if you can find a role for him.

Martin Keown just confirmed what I said last week that Pep is constantly telling Grealish to stay wide near the touch line .. to provide width and create space infield.

Someone disputed that point last week .

Foden's passing from midfield is class.

He doesn't always play in a wide position for City. That's a fact.

Foden's vision is incredible. He has everything apart maybe needing to finish better

He needs to use his right foot more when finishing. He tries to finish with his left in too awkward positions too often. Nice to see him looking class in that free role dropping deep against better opposition.

My point was that he’s normally played wide on the left with the instructions to provide as much width as possible.

Obviously he drifts in-field , even to the right side on occasion but his starting position and where he’s normally to be seen is wide left .. he even plays the odd game in the centre .

You can discount the 7 sub appearances as it doesn’t specify a position ( most likely left though lol)

Rashford is the latest to get a daft looking hairstyle.. I thought he was more of a leader than a follower.

Still Dele Alli still holds the title

I don't think there's a better leftback than luke Shaw in world football right now

This crop of players is staggering..

Still no room for Burnley’s McNeil or Harvey Barnes amongst others
