Oh I agree. Maybe play the Nations League but leave out the US and Mexico. Or have them feed into the competition much later. Given that the idea is to give the smaller countries more games to help them bring up their level, I don’t think it necessarily needs the bigger team. I’d much rather we have a Copa America that includes CONCACAF teams that runs concurrently with the Euro Cup ever 4 years. UEFA Nations League is also just as much a waste of time. Between the Euro Cup and the World Cup, and qualifying for both, it’s not as if European teams are lacking for meaningful games.
Yeah, I know. I don’t like that one either for the same reason. Makes friendlies less meaningless I guess. Still, that still leaves Africa, Asia, and South America. I would ratter play Korea and Ghana than Honduras for the zillionth time sigh.
Man, going to the Copa America is the best possible preparation for the world cup. Playing away against solid teams. I am so sad we so rarely make the trip.
I’ve said this a few times but we really need to in the lead up to 2026 as without qualifying we don’t really have the opportunity for many other meaningful games. Plus I think the US, Canada, and Mexico alone have the potential to increase the money intake. Canada itself would be the 4th largest country in South America by population, and if they make the World Cup I think they’ll see a massive boost of interest. I also liked the idea I’ve seen floated that instead of playing a World Cup every two years, schedule a tournament for every confederation other than UEFA and CONMEBOL to run concurrently with the Euros and Copa America. Either way it’d be nice to get meaningful games against someone other than the same old CONCACAF teams.

Great stat there! But, why do you have to make this comment? You know well that not a single person, not even one of the posters that actually might have legit screws loose, has said that Scally is "actually NOT good". Everyone agrees he looks like a really good prospect. I can't think of anyone who hasn't been impressed, regardless of whether they are watching his full games, watching highlights, or just generally tracking his minutes/stats/hype. The differences in opinion nearly entirely come down to "Is he ready TODAY for a WCQ or not?" The more days pass, the closer those differences in opinion become. You make so many good posts; don't taint it by posting this kind of junk comment.
People wouldn't make "junk comments" if Berhalter's player selection wasn't so consistently ridiculous and posters like you wouldn't consistently defend the consistently terrible player selections
Remember, with u17's we had Reyna in the 10 and Busio on the wing and Wicky switched those two later in the tourney to good effect, iirc. At the pro level that 10 type of role gets moved horizontally more these days. Pulisic gets concahacked by Berhalter's 10 fashioned in the syle of Frederico Higuain's 10 at Crew. I like to think our horizontal movement with Dest and Scally in a 3421 type formation will help replace the central 10. We havent had 2 wb's like that before. To whom do you assign the #10 in a 3421? Both in the line of 2, I suppose. Too bad about our anvil footed central midfield but they should be helpful in hammering the opposing team's #10, col (cry out loud?).
Haha... I wonder if you have ever read and tried to understand my posts. I am noticing a few posters like you attempting rate other posters comments. It is kind of odd. BTW, if you go back and look, I have been all over Berhalter poor player selection and associated wasted time on players who don't belong in the pool.
Less “flavor of the week” and more “staple of home cooking”, but wasn't feeling cozy about Pulisic having ongoing ankle pain. https://www.espn.com/soccer/chelsea...ly-suffering-to-overcome-injury-thomas-tuchel
Pretty amazing how quickly some of these players are transforming their games after moving. Busio looks like a much more complete player. Scally looks like a player that begs the question why he didn't get time in MLS. Can't remember which announcer it was (maybe Twellamn ) who recently commented on how much improvement Aaronson had made in the last year. It the nonsense about magic pixie dust that the defensive MLS fan will invoke, but better quality all around, team structure and tactics, competition, etc. It is also a sign that there are young players coming out of MLS that have the raw tools to succeed if put in the right environment. I wish this could be a universal view, but have seen many who still want kids to stay in MLS longer to see if they can reinvent the wheel again. Hopefully, most of the kids will be paying attention to what has been working and make that move as soon as a good one presents itself.
I don't think Busio makes your case. He left MLS at 19 with 61 appearances and 39 starts. It's not a coincidence that he was ready to pay on arrival. Adams had 52/49 when he jumped right into the lineup at RBL. Pepi will have over 30 when this season ends. I think he's ready now. Tessman only had 15 starts when he left and despite being a physical specimen, can't get off the bench. It's good for his pockets but for his game, maybe a loan back till winter would have been better.
Yes, Busio makes the case quite well for what I said. He has improved dramatically in just a few months. Adams as well. Scally went from a youth player to Bundesliga starter. Plenty of other examples of players with a range of MLS experience. If we got to see Tessman play, I'd guess he would probably be notably better. Of course you believe in magic MLS pixie dust. Is he even guaranteed games at FCD? He has the physicality. His focus needs to be on the technical, tactical, and mental side. Why would you think MLS would be better for that?
Adams has been nipping into ints and tackles. He has been participating in buildup play. He has getting with referee and directing players like he's the team captain. RB really should be up 3-1. They've blown chance after chance.
Time on the field is pixie dust? This is just arguing for the sake of arguing. How has Busio improved? When I watch him he seems like the same guy but with less of the ball and hardly any free kicks.
I guess so. People on here seem to think it is magically going to make players better. These same people underestimate the benefit of better training. Players need to improve their game and playing games doesn't guarantee that. They need to focus on their weaknesses to. Are them more complete players. Plays quicker, has better movement, reads game better and picks out better passes. There is probably more but a good place to start.
