Only 15k attendance on a Saturday night is pretty yikes.

hard to know what to make of that exactly. Is it the 2 months without a win? The new vaccine mandate? The Dodgers playing?

I also noted that the LA kings and Anaheim Ducks have had 1/2 empty arenas for their respective first two home games each. (Both also have vaccine requirements)

LAFC crowd was poor by their standards.

    interesting times for sports attendance.

While I agree his crossings were weak, his actual passing was excellent. He prob had a number of key passes (that led to a shot).

So true. Check out these rather amazing stats:
    Key Passes:
    1. Vazquez 8
    2. Araujo 4
3-5 (tied). Cabral, Chich, JDS each with 1
    6-15. Rest of team 0
    Touches:
    1. Araujo 103(!)
    2,3. Williams & Niko 86 & 85 (very busy)
    4-6. DePuy, JDS*, Raveloson 76, 74, 71
    7-8. Vazquez*, Grandsir, 57, 53
    9. Bond 40
    10,11. Chich, Cabral* 37, 32 (37 is ok’ish for a center forward but 32 is awful for a midfielder)
    * Played 60-70 mins

Araujo also had an assist and a near assist, both to Chich. Lucky on the assist (defender commits dummy play, in both senses of the word), unlucky on the near assist (Chich hits easy shot straight at keeper).

I thought Araujo unlocked the Portland defense all night. Literally the only speed we had on the field.

How does this work going forward - we are starting multiple players (Vasquez, JDS) that can barely go for half a game. This team still needs players, will be interesting who our next DP is. I thought Vanney at least subbed earlier than normal last night - 63rd minute.

Dejan needs to be on the field, this team needs his grit, hustle and scoring.
Lletget looks lost out there - not sure what his role is.

I'll take the win, but I sure was frustrated for 90 minutes. Hopefully this gives us some confidence going forward.

Agree on that damned Chara.

Also, we need a charaesque player on Galaxy. He is a stopper and a bruiser and does it all with enough finesse to escape the cardage. We don't have a dude like that and he does affect the game's tempo and pace in no uncertain ways. :sneaky:

I think it's just Vanney. He clearly has a preference for his guy Cabral and is hell bent on making that work before he gives Dejan the time of day. I really cannot see Joveljic as some lazy, entitled player just walking around practices. Watching him get reduced to a time wasting tactic at the 83rd minute is very disappointing for me to see. I hope we don't end up losing him for next year somehow. :(

Great analysis, everyone. I think others have mentioned it, but whatever Williams did during his injury time off, it worked. He was really good last night and looked like the player we were hoping we'd get when he was signed.

I'm going to say it's because of the Dodgers. Personally, I didn't tune into the Gs game until after the Dodgers game ended :(.

    My order of preference:
    1. Dodgers
    2. Lakers
    3. Kings
    4. Galaxy

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if its the front office that is demanding Cabral get more playing time solely due to that DP tag. Got to justify that paycheck.

I get tactically the reason for playing Cabral. He gives you some verticality that Dejan doesn't. In theory.

The whole point of “verticality” (the in vogue word for attacking passes) is to get the ball to goal scorers who can put the ball in the net. Verticality without finishers isn’t that useful.

15k attendance really isn't bad especially considering the requirement of a vaccine card or negative test. A lot of people who are fully vaccinated still don't feel comfortable going to sporting events. Even just in my own soccer league, we've lost players because despite being vaccinated, they still see soccer as a risk.

This is also happening all around the US. Yea there are some clubs like Austin, Atlanta, Seattle who are getting big crowds mostly because there is not a lot of competition for sporting events in those cities. But the majority of MLS clubs are getting 12k-18k it seems.

Cabral makes the best runs of be anyone on the team. He pulls defenders with him when he does, creating open shots for others making runs into the 18. The fact that those players don't finish or shoot right at the keeper isn't Cabral's fault.

I was arguing for Dejan being on the field, not against Cabral.

Great game! I was surprised that we were clearly the better team for the whole game. And, thanks to Sacha for believing in himself and our team.

My thing with Cabral is that he has been given tons and tons of PT. Nobody can sit there and say hey, they haven't given Kevin enough minutes for a clear picture to emerge as far as THIS YEAR is concerned. He certainly has been given the time and the picture is pretty clear.

Now granted Kevin does bring something to the table and he has improved a bit. When Joveljic was not with the team it was almost justifiable to keep playing Cabral ad nauseam but now that we have signed a guy who has skills, goals and looks like he is chomping at the bit to play for us.... why are we still starting and playing Cabral so much? Is what Cabral brings right now with his runs indispensable?

I want Dejan to have a fair shake at helping Galaxy get out of this hole it finds itself in. Cabral was given his chance. Give Dejan his or at least equal time to where it can be said nope, Cabral is a better option.

And no, giving him 7 minutes here and 12 minutes there is not it. Again, I don't mean to bury Cabral. Use them both. Whatever works.

He also creates dumb turnovers, is as bad as Zubak at finishing and his defensive play is crap. Right now we need someone that can at minimum play defense and create space for other attackers and this team has guys other than Cabral that can pull this off.
