The CR match yielded the ideal Gregg passing network. with both Aaronson(11) and Weah(20) running beyond Pepi(16). Zardes drops into deep position with Columbus but that is to provide defensive cover and an outlet, rather than to provide attacking passing. Sargent has a better profile but hasn't clicked with the National Team. Hoppe is raw and hasn't seen much playing time in Spain. Dike doesn't apply elite levels of pressure but excels in holdup play. Jesus Ferreira fits the profile for the type striker GGG wants in a 433.

From Reddit: Hundreds voted and the results are in! Here is the 23 man squad chosen by r/ussoccer after this 3rd round of polling. Hmmm perhaps Gregg should leave the task of roster selection up to a group of 20 year olds playing FIFA in their college dorms.....
Wow... The is becoming pretty clear. At least to the fans. That would be close to my 23 and if I wanted to swap out a player or two, they would be from players 24 to 30. A few interesting tidbits from the data.... - The players who nearly made the cut (placed 24th through 30th) were: Konrad de la Fuente, Josh Sargent, Jordan Pefok, Mark McKenzie, Matt Miazga, Gyasi Zardes, and Daryl Dike. - After very narrowly missing out on both of the previous polls, Deandre Yedlin finally made the top 23. - After making the cut the first time around, and being in the mix during the second round of polling, Jackson Yueill seems to have lost any and all support. He received 0 votes. - Unsurprisingly, our trio of goalkeepers continue to have a firm grip on the available slots. The keeper with the 4th highest level of support was Sean Johnson.....who was only selected by voters 6% of the time.
22/23 for me... replace Yedlin with Dike... nothing against Yedlin really but no need for a third RB in a 23 man roster with Richards, Adams, and Acosta. My just missed the cut guys would currently be Miazga and Konrad. Uh have you considered the possibility that you and hundreds of people who follow the USMNT around the country are wrong, while Gregg and the half dozen people who will inevitably come to his defense no matter what he does are right?
15 out of the 23 received over 85% of the vote... Pulisic 99 Dest 99 McKennie 99 Adams 98 Reyna 98 Aaronson 98 A Robinson 98 Pepi 97 Weah 96 Musah 96 Turner 95 M Robinson 95 Steffen 94 Brooks 90 Richards 87 CRAZY IDEA: Just start as many of those 15 as you can as often as you can... supplemented by the next 15 on the list as needed... and pretty much no one else barring some extreme circumstances that are unlikely to arise in the real world. I mean obviously some others may push their way into the conversation with their performances (and we should all be hoping they do!!) but that's more likely to be some young/new faces like Paredes Tolkin or Cowell than Gregg vets like Lletget Roldan or Ream. 16 to 30: Busio 82 Hoppe 79 Scally 71 Zimmerman 70 Yedlin 67 Acosta 53 Horvath 52 de la Torre 46 - The players who nearly made the cut (placed 24th through 30th) were: Konrad de la Fuente, Josh Sargent, Jordan Pefok, Mark McKenzie, Matt Miazga, Gyasi Zardes, and Daryl Dike. Maybe just maybe it's actually not that hard??
5 injured from a top 30 still leaves 25, which is just about how many Gregg calls in for each window... even though many of us would like for him to call in 30.
I'm just curious how many people who are calling for Scally have watched his games. I mean all of the games, not highlights. I haven't seen any of them so I would think it's ridiculous for me personally to call for him. I will assume the staff have watched all of his games and talked with his club coaches and have info we do not have. I'm not making a judgement, just curious what information these voters are basing their votes on.
My life experience has taught me the value of humility. Generally, I think we are trending the right direction with Gregg. Is he perfect? No. Is anyone perfect for that matter? Not really. Gregg’s given lots of young guys opportunities to play. Has he stuck with certain players too long? Sure. But overall, I think we will end up with a final roster most of us will be pleased with. I grew up playing in the 70s/80s. Today’s soccer landscape is so different from what we had before. I’m proud of the passion of our growing fan base, the players and our aspirations as a soccer country. We are getting there. In the end, I’m not sure it’s about being right or wrong, it’s about enjoying the ride, bantering with all of you guys, having fun watching games, and some arm chair travel as we participate in the world’s game. I’m confident great days await our National team. As a fan base, I think all the disagreements and rancor is healthy, as long as it’s respectful. I guess I identify with that line from Ted Lasso, “Football is life.” Let’s enjoy the ride and become better people as we do so. That must sound corny AF, but that’s how I see it.
Umm, aside from Ethan Horvath, Joe Scally and guys that were hurt ... that's all guys Berhalter did select. And since there's a lot of popular names in the new faces, it seems like Berhalter did it first. Man, those fans, they know it all. Like, clearly, you just start everyone 3 games in 7 days all the time and it just works!
It's not right or wrong, it's an opinion. Let's give it a rest with the, "I'm right so anyone who disagrees with me, especially the coach, is wrong." attitude. A lot of people don't like a couple of the coach's picks. So what? He doesn't owe a justification for why he chose players you, me, or any other fan doesn't like. It's a disgreement, that's all it is.
To be clear, XBH contributes a ton to these boards, which I appreciate. Like I said, I think it’s cool people care enough to be challenging Berhalter’s picks. That’s a sign of a burgeoning and passionate fan base. It’s gonna take some passion to get us to the next level.
People told me what? That zonal defense on corners is a thing? That allowing attackers to remain unmarked goal-side? Something else? No one responded to my comment blaming Lletget for failing to mark the dude that got his head on the ball.
Watched him again yesterday for about half the match. He is so solid that last week a European paper posed the question, “Is Scally Gkadbach’s best player?“ That ballot is uncanny. I’m not sure I would change a thing, including the reserves up to number 30.
I'm not really into sending an Olympic team* to the World Cup if we can help it. Certainly don't think that's the ideal group now - let alone the last year or two as some people pretend. *(U-23 + 3 vets whose crap games are ignored because, well, Europe.) And it honestly makes no difference that some of these guys have barely if ever played in an adult US game?
That's a pretty good 23. Personally, I would take out Luca DLT and add Pefok so that we have 2 true CF options. Hoppe is more of a hybrid. Aaronson and Reyna could cover that 6th midfield spot, if needed. This would be a World Cup squad, so no rotation needed like in these 3-game qualifying windows. I would like to find a spot for Konrad too, but that's a tough decision on who to cut. I might go with Miazga over Zimmerman if he continues to perform well in La Liga. But that's pretty much a 50-50 decision between those 2 guys since Zimmerman has been good. Maybe FIFA will allow 24 or 25 player squads because of the new 5 sub rule? If so, problem solved.
It's not right or wrong, it's an opinion. But not all opinions are the same? There are actually good opinions and bad opinions. F*ck that "there are no stupid questions" nonsense... what kind of questions do dumb people ask, do they magically get smart right as they're posing their question? Is it just some weird coincidence that a lot of people seem to be in almost perfect agreement with this 23 and 30 as what the current pool should be, or differ by 1-2 players at most? Where are you seeing Lletget, Roldan, Arriola, Ream, etc. on that list? First window we had Jackson Yueill as the injury replacement, a player who apparently received 0 votes out of hundreds cast. And again, there are 30 names, Berhalter keeps calling in just around 25 for those "3 games in 7 days", which allows for 5 injuries and other omissions, without getting beyond the 30 listed... not that Lletget or Ream should even be 31.
Yeah. I would add that the 30 is pretty much spot on for me, except that I might have Julian Green in there instead of Zardes.
