Some interesting transfers set for new-intakes. Karoy Anderson (2004 ACM) Charlton to Man Utd James Debayo (2005 CB) Watford to Leeds Darryl Ombang (2005 GK) Bradford to Leeds Tomas Galvez (LB) Watford to Man City Josh Feeney (2005 CB) Fleetwood to Aston Villa Supposedly ATT Ethan Ennis turned down Liverpool to join Man Utd. Any other new one's in the pipeline ?
Sonny Cox and Harry Lee from Exeter to any number of major suitors, though they're trying hard to keep them. A few other potentially interesting ones around too.
Daniel Oyegoke has left Arsenal. Very talented player (mainly right-back) so a big loss.— Jeorge Bird (@jeorgebird) June 22, 2021 Any idea where he's going?
Feeney's transfer now official. Both Debayo & Galvez not named among Watford's scholars so they're pretty much confirmed too. Another one to watch is Max Alleyne. Wasn't named among Southampton's new intake & is supposedly wanted by all the top Prem clubs.
Debayo already changed his Insta bio to say he's a Leeds player. Alleyne will probably end up at City, it was between them and Chelsea last I heard and Chelsea announced their scholars yesterday.
Joe Winstanley (England U15 and U16) left Wigan to join Brighton, that pathway is still very much open.
Bobby Clark looks to be signing for Liverpool 🚨 EXCLUSIVE: 16 year-old Newcastle & England winger Bobby Clark will sign for Liverpool ✅🤝Made his U18 debut at 14 back in 2019... Top deal#NUFC #LFC #PL pic.twitter.com/NnyENCy51V— Rising Ballers (@RisingBallers_) July 22, 2021
Looks like he will be replacing Ennis. Two intakes in a row more additions than local for Liverpool. Waiting on Man Utd to confirm 3 of which 2 look like Ennis/Anderson and Alleyne to City now. Also saw Palace signed Adler Nascimento from Peterborough
Just noticed that Zion Atta isn't listed among Crystal Palace's U18s on their website. Most recent club linked to him is Nice but Italy also seems a good bet considering he has family from there & Raiola as his agent.
According to Man United's website there are now broadcasting restrictions that prevent PL2 games from being livestreamed if there is a Premier League game going on at the same time. Thankfully a lot of the PL2 games don't clash but there are still a fair few that do. City vs Liverpool tomorrow won't be able to be shown live for example. Not really sure what the point of this is.
Those rules have technically existed for some time but it's really inconsistent as to whether it's actually enforced. Chelsea have played many a Monday night game shown live even when MNF is on.
Huh, first I heard of it was today. Might be a timing thing then. MNF is at 8 while PL2 games tend to be 7 kick-offs. While, tomorrow United vs Leicester + Liverpool vs City kick-off at 2, same time as West Ham vs Newcastle in the Prem.
Looks like Brentford will be re-opening their academy in the near future. Brentford will reopen their academy after Premier League clubs voted through a rule that dictates every member must operate one by the start of the 2024-25 season.Story: @benfisherj https://t.co/TOfRtYpeEt— Guardian sport (@guardian_sport) July 8, 2022 Also, curiously they are listed as being involved in this season's FA Youth Cup. Not sure how that will work out because as of right now I don't think they have a single eligible player. I guess they'll put together an U18 squad this summer.
Apparently Brentford were planning to bring back their academy anyway. Several reasons but they certainly have the money now and Brexit has limited their previous transfer strategy. I believe the Bundesliga already has a similar rule, teams have to operate an academy. That Guardian article estimates running costs of two million for a category2 academy, fraction of their overall revenue for a premier league team. I suppose it is too much to hope this review gives the smaller teams more chance of holding onto the players they've developed. Or at least fairer compensation if the player makes the grade as a premier league player. The current situation might now lead to certain clubs being forced to run an academy against their will which is obviously illogical.
More likely better compensation as it would be an easier way to say and show that money is being redistributed down the ladder.
