And you can keep doing that endlessly. You could have 4 regional conferences of 16 teams each.

Yep even longer odds than either Villa or Wolves were on at the start of the season.

    do you have a point?

Great you watch a lot of soccer... Again is there an argument being made somewhere in this?

    * love how you felt obliged to tell me what USL is thanks for the knowledge

Going more regional is an option but I still prefer dividing it horizontally rather than vertically. If you expand horizontally (regionally) you don't get the best vs the best.

Europe is only slightly bigger than the US and has 55 top-flight divisions. The best meet the best in continental competitions.

Yes he did, he NEVER had any problems with his accent, not ever, not once, he started going in the sixties, he stopped going in the late eighties, he took me to Anfield just the once (in 82 I think) to watch a cup match v Brighton, Jimmy Case scored the winner....................for Brighton! We caught the train to the city.

And one Champions League (European cup)! As a Chelsea fan I am always being told 'you've got no history' and now you're telling me old history doesn't count!? :-D As I'm sure you know Paul the size and importance of any club relies on all sorts of parameters of which success is one of them. Aston Villa have spent nearly all their existence playing top flight football in front of some of the largest crowds in one of the largest stadiums, in Englands second biggest city, if Spurs are considered 'big boys' then I can see no valid argument to suggest that Aston Villa aren't. Aston Villa is one of the largest clubs in England, perhaps people that have only followed English football for ten years fail to realise this.

I've already explained why they're one of the biggest clubs, so I agree with you. But if you're going to include the number of League championships and FA Cups without context, I think it's worth noting that they've only won one of each in the last century.

Villa being underperforming disappointments is representative of Birmingham in general.

In fairness, it's now a way more interesting city than the one I grew up in way back when. And it does contain what I consider "the best Indian restaurant in the world".

I will absolutely confess that the only perspective I have are from South Asian restaurants in Atlanta, but the balti and Indian food in general in Birmingham is out of this world.

Also, I truly do love Birmingham. But part of why I love it is because how absolutely uncool it is.
That said, Manchester is really no better. I have no idea why it’s considered more hip.

Also I realize that Balti is very specific to Birmingham. But I think that’s something that should be commended, honestly.

I think Manchester's hipness came from the music scene. I believe it's quite nice now. It used to be a dump but not as bad as Brum or Liverpool.

(For perspective, prior to COVID, when we went completely distributed, my company’s office was based in the “hip” part of Birmingham, which would honestly be given side eye here in backwater Chattanooga)

I actually had the thought yesterday that, since NISA can now accredit NISA Nation (similar to how USL accredits USL2), they should make what is currently NISA their D1, and build their pyramid down from that and relegate into a pro/am NISA Nation league, a la NPSL Pro.

You can learn more from Telly Savalas, including "the view that nearly took my breath away" at the start, of the 1981 Birmingham skyline.

Surely that just goes to show exactly how long they have been one of Englands biggest football clubs no!? Whichever way you look at it Aston Villa is one of Englands biggest clubs, I'm not sure why you seem to be looking for an argument on this?

Just a few of Birmingham's finest:-
    UB40
    Duran Duran
Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourn of course)
    ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)
    Judas Priest
    The Moody Blues
    Ocean Colour Scene
    Dexy's Midnight Runners
    Wizard

And of course (arguably?) Led Zeppelin, or at least half of it! (two London musicians two from Brum)

Not too shabby? A match to Manchester perhaps? As for Liverpool we all know about the music scene from there don't we?

Talking of Midlands football, money, relegation, bankruptcy and Premier League dreams:-

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...hs-bottom-tier-Premier-League-day-dreams.html

What a job Robins has done with that football club! A club that was a Premier League (Div 1) mainstay when I was a small boy, a club that has fallen rock bottom and is finding its way back. A club that will get Premier League crowds if/when it returns to the promised land.

    What a journey they're on.
