Hey, Joey, not sure if the new point system will be good or bad for the game but, to be fair, indoor soccer has poached hockey since Day 1 with the use of dasher boards, penalty boxes, and free-flowing player substitutions. I'm willing to give the new point system a try and see how it works out.
The point system that the MASL is using has been used before. The EISL used the same system during its two seasons back in 1997 and 1998.
Did they play overtime? I just looked up their standings and it only shows columns for shootout wins and losses (there were only 4 shootout games the first year and 6 the second year). Basically all the points system does is become the first tie-breaker. If teams have an identical record, the team with the WORST overtime record will be the top seed.
Has the Wave been on the shelf that long? I tried to follow the games last year, and I haven't heard of any of these guys!
Yeah, a few of these guys I've never heard of either but I am familiar with Tavoy Morgan (too bad Harrisburg couldn't keep him), Obasi of Utica City and Ricardo John, who played for Trinidad-Tobago a few years ago. Many of the more familiar players in the league aren't being signed (or re-signed) right now as they are still fulfilling their current contracts. Still plenty of familiar names on the MASL rosters!
so the playoff format is division winners and best 5 records. makes sense. layoff format is basically the same with a minigame tiebreaker if needed.
