Great celebration down in Asstown, as they announced to great fanfare that they have signed their first HG, thereby demonstrating the strength of their Development program. Hurrah! Except that the kid they signed was 16 year old Owen Wolff, Josh's son, who until last month was with Atlanta and before that Columbus. So congrats to the FC for signing the coach's kid, with whose development they had nothing to do with.
Anything they are doing, we are doing better. Columbus' Owen has already made an impact this year and is 4th in team scoring last time I looked.
What "take" should we take bro? Your fantasy, or the reality that Wolff did not work his way up through an academy that is barely off the ground yet?
Homegrown just means they’ve spent 150 days or whatever in the Academy. It was announced with the same fanfare as [insert random guy here] and not as if it was some miracle product of the system. He’s been in Austin since the spring, not a month and played with the first team two months ago in the Tigres friendly. Austin’s highest level academy team was U15 until this month and nobody was expecting a first team signing out of that group so nobody is claiming that the signing has anything to do with the strength of the development program. That’s a lot of wrong for 40 words or whatever.
I don't know where you clowns get your information but this is a definition of "Homegrown" according to the MLS website. One year is certainly not 150 days.
Well, since we don't know what the source was for your quote, it's more likely we'll agree with the published MLS criteria. And whoever wrote that - probably Chris Bils - took it out of context. The 150 attendance days requirement is in addition to the one year rule. The intent is that you not just be on a roster but that you actually participate over a period of at least a year. Training with a team every goddam day and twice on Sunday does not replace the one year criteria. It looks to me a lot like Austin is pulling a fast one for coach Loser.
Just when you think you can let this thread fade off into obscurity because Austin Soccer Bois have stopped being f*cktwats, ol Derek Ensign decides to come out from under his bridge and try and do some trolling. What an absolute douche nozzle. Apparently he has never of “marketing”. Is it relevant to note that the crews sponsors are trying to give away season tickets to see the defending champs in their new downtown stadium? pic.twitter.com/4EScNqgSHJ— Derek Ensign (@derekensign) October 14, 2021
a) Columbus has more professional sports than Austin, even if whatever numbskull is quoted never heard of the NHL or MLS. All it proves is that ABC6 isn't particular about interviewing stupid people who live under rocks. b) Derek the Imbecile might note that lower.com isn't offering free bags of dogshit to people who finance through them. Rather, they're offering something that people actually want. Duh. c) Giving free tix to people as an incentive to finance homes with them is not exactly the same thing as standing on the street passing them out. d) I note that Derek seems to be unemployed.
I have written and erased my comment at least a dozen times. There is a lot to unpack here that is not related to Austin; so f#ck Austin. I just refinanced and didn't even think of Lower.com. If that douchebag had tried to make fun of the Crew earlier, it would have helped me with season tickets next year. So, f#ck him too. Now that's out of the way -- I hope the lady misspoke because being on television and all. If not, I would have to ask if she has ever been downtown from her house in Marysville. Unlike some cities, you don't see the professional sports stadiums in Columbus unless you leave the suburbs and go downtown.
Or she thinks there is nothing other than THE Ohio State University and soccer is a novelty similar to a food truck that serves Thai. In short, a moron.
Honestly that was my first thought: This woman just watched a game in a gleaming new $350 million professional sports stadium built for ...... one soccer game? "Yeah boy, nice place. Too bad it only gets used for this one game." And apparently she didn't notice "Columbus Crew" plastered all over the place. Or maybe she's just an imbecile.
With respect to the postgame report from the #USMNT match that aired on ABC-6 last night, I feel compelled to say the woman's comment about "no pro sports in Columbus" was right out of 1995 and should have been qualified or refuted. Had I reported the story I would have done so.— Clay Hall (@claywsyx6) October 14, 2021 What's so maddening about her comment is Columbus and some pioneering souls have worked so hard to change the cow-town, Buckeyes only image. The sports landscape has changed so drastically since then and I've tried to celebrate those developments over my 26 years here.— Clay Hall (@claywsyx6) October 14, 2021
someone should offer to take her to a game. you know, create a fan instead of turn her away forever. also fcuk austin
